They barely even pulled it off. Muhammad Atta's crew nailed the shit out of the north tower. Flawless execution on their behalf, but the south tower group nearly missed the building entirely.
I forget the name of the pilot, but he descended the plane 10,000 feet in a minute. They were really lucky that they ended up anywhere near the WTC.
As for the rest of the operation, they could have done a much better job. Attacking the Pentagon was stupid as hell. Most Americans don't even think about that when they think 9/11. Just imagine had they put that through the White House instead.
They also could have avoided the crash in Pennsylvania had they done better research to virtually ensure that the flight would not be delayed. That didn't really have to hijack planes full of fuel for the Capitol Building and White House. There'd be more damage, but shock to the nation would be massive either way.
I'm just relieved that we're to the point where that can no longer be pulled off. Although terrorism is overhyped bullshit, as more Americans will die this month in car accidents than what died on 9/11, I can't imagine what I would have felt like if they had put planes in the WTC, the Capitol Building and the White House.

You're absolutely right though, in how the Pentagon shows their mindset. That's just a testament to how dumb they are and proof that it wasn't some mastermind evildoer behind the whole thing.
