I agree that it's touchy, but for most citizens, it's not a huge tax raise. And for 95% of people, they'll be saving money. Like you said, you'd benefit from free tuition. The increases in taxes would go towards education and infrastructure instead of military. In my eyes that's a fantastic thing, but I can see how some may disagree. I think it's justified because the investments will create upwards of 13 millions jobs and form an educated work force among other things. These are important reasons to me, but I can definitely see why many people dislike the tax raises.

Here's my logic: If the government is footing the bill for students to go to college tuition free, it will want to make sure that this is a successful investment. To that end, there will ultimately be some level of government oversight of the institutions in question to make sure that the programs they are offering fit government standards for making sure goals are reached. Classes and programs may be cut or expanded depending on the government's priorities since they will be paying a lot of the money. The government will want to make sure it is not "wasting" money and will withhold money or offer incentives to universities depending on if they comply with certain guidelines.
