That's a good idea actually although I would prefer a general ww2 themed museum.
They say that every couple years, and nothing ever happens except for "heated debate". Last time I've read about that house they were allegedly planning to convert it into a holocaust memorial.
Actually it wouldn't surprise me if it's all a ploy of Austria's tourist ministry ("come visit der Führer's birthplace while you still can^^"), considering it's the only relevant landmark the country has to offer.
