Why is there such a big push to get kids into STEM?

STEM graduates, even from top-ranking universities, face great difficulty finding jobs, yet governments keep pushing STEM on kids.

What is going on here?

The government doesn't understand supply and demand, and thinks we can use meme degrees to make every single citizen a doctor and lawyer and that this will mean big bucks for everyone through taxation.

Yes, they are that stupid. Spend some time at your local politics level and you will understand why democracy is a failure.

only CS cucks, because indians can do their job for like $20 per month or something.

Here in the Netherlands each year about 1200 people graduate with a masters degree in engineering. The company ASML needs about 1000 higly educated engineers. Even though they spend huge amounts of money to fill those applications with Dutch graduates, they only get less than 500. So they have to import engineers from South Europe, Eastern Europe, South-East Asia, Russia, India and even South America.
However if you study social studies you are likely unemployed. It would just make sense to push people get a degree which would provide a job.

your forgetting that most majors being pushed in college are useless to begin with, because these majors have the highest profit margins and lowest costs (eg lib arts)

why is it that every other STEM faggot these days is doing some bullshit comp sci or mechanical engineering, while there are lackluster supply in fields like petroleum engineering or nuclear engineering?

even look at the business schools:
>everyone is useless business major
>accounting is marketed as the "best paying job field", yet requires no creativity and will never yield the country's next brilliant businesses and entreprenuers
>there is literally a entrepreneur major....you get a piece of paper to be your own boss

The only reason why you faggots can't find a job in STEM is because your school sucks. Everyone knows that companies want experienced workers, that's why you take a goddamn internship during the summer when you are studying. It gives you the experience necessary to find a job once you're done with school. I literally don't know anyone here who didn't find a job after finishing school in any STEM related field.

Besides, if you are going to university, you should always go to a STEM program. You can't possibly believe that you have more chance to find a job with an arts or music degree than a STEM degree.

STEM should really change their thing to TEMM (technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine) since that's what pays. Most science majors don't pay well and some may argue math doesn't have too many positions available either unless it deals with physics and engineering.

1) You're using data specifically from MIT about MIT graduates. 2.0 pajeet probably not going to MIT.
2) Did you take into account the cost of living? Those salaries may be a lot in rural/suburban areas but they really aren't that great in major metropolitan ones (which state or territory you're in will also come into play i.e. taxes).
3) Union drywall finishers, depending on their location, can make a 75k a year. And that's from three years serving as a paid apprentice as opposed to going to an ivy league school for 4+ years and potentially racking up buku debt.

Actually schools should seriously drop sex ed and make it a mix between the very basics of sex and how to get a gf/bf and what makes a good keeper.

Because kids these days think that having a bookshelf on naruto and having greasy as fuck hair can make a good boyfriend. And a lot of girls think being a sexy cunt is all that matters when really I want someone to bake me food and cuddle.

"Gender studies" but really just relationships and how to form interpersonal relationships, it sounds like a good investment for the future when you think about the failing family unit.

Going into old school STEM isn't the problem.

The problem is you fucking idiots keep stuffing everything under the STEM umbrella, including all the shitty should-not-be-STEM subjects. Even sociology is in there now, for fuck's sake.

Basically if you get a degree in a subject that existed 100 years ago, you're good to go - physics, engineering, chemistry, mathematics etc. Anything else and you're rolling the fucking dice. Even CS doesn't really count at lower levels as it's ostensibly a vocational qualification - a skillset that Pajeets can pick up quickly.

>letting Pajeet do anything important

STEM jobs pay well, businesses hate paying employees well because it is a business cost that impacts profit, more STEM folks = lower wages because of supply.

This is the same reason women are now in the workforce, immigration is 1,000,000 per year, and H1B Visas are being pushed.

>this method does not improve the quality of the STEM grads
>it waters down the profession and creates education inflation
>suddenly companies need employees with 10+ years experience and masters degrees to do basic design engineering

So, while I love the idea of fostering a love of math and science, if it isn't your cup of tea, for fucks sake get a degree in something else instead of chasing a quickly disappearing pay check.

Basically. It's also fine to cross paths in that manner as well- things like Biomedical Engineering (mine) have plenty of spots.

>also being grill helps, using the system yeah!
>>
>>70460009

The problem is that Computer Science at its undergraduate level is basically a technical vocation - a skillset. It's like being a plumber or a carpenter but it's not something that's massively difficult, which is why the market is saturated and the reason why people call STEM a meme - because CS grads can't get jobs.

The reality is it's not really 'STEM' in the true sense of STEM. People with physics degrees, for example, aren't struggling to get jobs nor are engineers. Why? Because those subjects are difficult and those people can't just be replaced by Pajeets.

Not all subjects under the STEM banner are equal. Don't be dissuaded from studying a proper STEM subject just because some CS fag's job is being outsourced to a poo-in-the-loo.

That propably is a valid route in countries where you have to donate half of your inner organs to get a common degree. CS is still much more than just programming.

No, they do understand that. They're trying to devalue the STEM degrees by flooding the market with people who have them.

Many people with a STEM degree not being able to find work is part of that.

If everyone, with no exceptions, became a medical doctor the value of that profession would be reduced to 0.

My daughter wants to study history and archeology at university.
She's 17 now,and I suppose she's following one of my interests in ancient history.
I have given her all my encouragement and I hope she does well.
My background is in languages. I'm bilingual in English/French (native speaker), dual nationality.
Good German, Spanish. I can communicate in Russian.
I have a fascination with ancient languages. I can read Icelandic sagas in the original, Greek, Latin.
My degree is in linguistics.

My wife is a doctor - a physician and she's interested in the human body and how it functions, how it evolved,
how we can fix it when things go wrong.

Knowledge is a wonderful thing. But to hold STEM high on a pedestal is to say that stuff like poetry is irrelevant.
Metalworking is irrelevant (my best m8 is a blacksmith), art is unimportant, literature is not necessary.

STEM is vital. But so are the other subjects of our human thirst for knowledge.
>>
>>70464226
Can you stop posting pictures please? You are making me sick
>>
>>70464863
Poetry is irrelevant you mong.

One day we'll create AI, and it will destroy all of humanity. The machines will then spread across the universe like a virus, and eventually all traces of human existence will fade, save for our horrific machinations. God will look down and smile, because all the poets are fucking dead and rotting.
>>
STEM is being pushed for a few reasons.

1 - Women in STEM is a meme right now and everyone is mad about it.
2 - Corporations are upset that they have to pay engineers a shitload of money. Flooding the market with engineers = lower salaries for all of them.

That's it. The thing that these memesters don't understand is that being a talented engineer is different than just being an engineer. You can't just make people good at it, they need to have the drive for it.

There is a surplus of labor in the world, especially the developed world.

NO CONVENTIONAL ECONOMIC POLICY WILL FIX THIS. Realize this. There will NEVER be enough jobs for everyone to support themselves ever again, and it will only get worse.

Politicians don't know how to deal with this, so they hope that STEM is a silver bullet. It's not. There's already not a shortage of STEM and soon enough there will be a surplus and we will see a huge increase in unemployed STEM grads.

But STEM is the closest thing to an in-demand field that exists in the modern economy, so the politicians don't know what else to do other than say "go to STEM" to everyone.

It won't work and that will be obvious soon. Ten years from now we will have a constant 50% unemployment rate no matter what you study or know.

Only way to fix this is radically high deficit spending and a new understanding of fiat currency. Don't hold your breath. The world is going to shit, guaranteed, and nothing will stop it.

>>
>>70465367

engineers don't make that much money really. what they do is way more difficult than what lawyers do, and contributes vastly more to society, yet lawyers make way more.

engineers should be paid at least 150% more than what they make now

They make six figs after 10 years and then cap out at like 150k. I'm not going to sit here and say I think engineers deserve a shit load of money because to be honest, a lot of them are fucking retarded, but on the same token I find it weird that they make a salary you can easily make with just a highschool education and hard work.

A software engineer isn't even a real engineer by the way, that's like the phrase network engineer.

I would say most people push it because people think in narratives defined by platitudes, rather than rational contemplation of facts.

That engineers and scientists are the the only subset of the working class that the elites need, can't easily outsource and won't be able to replace with robots means that they can demand more than subsistence wages. Increasing their numbers erodes labor security and is beneficial to the elites. I'd say that's 20-40% why it gets pushed. Elites conspiring against the citizens is what you get when you let Jewish sociopaths have the power.

People forget that not every STEM subject is created equally.

You major in a natural science or pure maths? Unless you want to spend your life doing research (which, depending on the field, can be a highly unreliable source of income), I hope you like teaching.

Meanwhile senior chartered engineers are making six figures in a field with ACTUAL high demand.

You are living in years long gone Anon.
The world is a different place.
A nation's status in the modern world id pretty much directly correlated to its standing as a scientific power. You might not want to admit that, but it is true and it doesn't take a PhD in nuclear physics to see that. Modern economies are increasingly STEM-dependent. I don't mean to sound cold, but if every poet in America dropped dead tomorrow--guess what--we're not missing a beat.

salaries in STEM fields are still pretty high and they need to lower them by oversaturating the job market.
