It depends on how much control Cruz and Trump have over their delegates
The delegates vote on the rules of the convention
Hence if the 8 state rule remains in place then Kasich can't do anything and only Cruz can be on the ballot
However it depends since Trump will likely win on the first ballot if he is at at least 1150 delegates, and if he is at 1200 or more he will win. And it is far more likely he'll have close to 1300 than it is for him to have 1200, and that's just in terms of pledged delegates. In terms of uncommitted delegates he'll have enough to go over 1300 unless there is a major upset like Cruz spontaneously winning New Jersey.

Many people here are too young to remember Kasich's long tenure in congress. He is a lifetime GOP politician and is the most wired in GOP candidate, failure of this campaign notwithstanding. There are party establishment types keeping him in for the convention option. It's a very American thing, and kind of obscure. It hasn't happened since 1976. The few left alive from then are now being sought out by all three campaigns.

Clinton will surely win, but not before Sanders gives her a lot of shit in front of the left constituency, his radical views forcing her further and further left of her previously moderate policy.
