I got a story about a Turk.
I remember back when I was in high school there'd be this one fucking kid called Sungur. He was from Izmir. He joined the soccer team, and was pretty good. His accent could make anyone laugh.
It was junior year and shit started to happen. Sungur had become adept at speaking English now from all tgat ESL in high school. We used to call him am Eastern Solitary Loser and shit because of it. Anyways, this is when he started acting off. Sungur started acting all weird. At first, he started talking about how much he hated school. Then, about how much he despised the "system". Soon, he just withdrew socially.
He became happier towards the end of the school year. He said he was going back to Turkey and shit, to Izmir. Kept talking about how he was finally going to see his cousins again. He came back a month after school started.
He left soccer, even though he was in varsity. He stopped showing up to classes. Stopped talking to us. He created a little click of Muslims and hung around with them. We didnt know what was happening to him , but soon he became the subject of rumor. People started saying the usual shit, terrorist and all that. I remember someone once called in a bomb threat at prom for their senior prank and people honestly took it seriously, blaming poor Sungur.
Then it started getting abusive. Some of the soccer guys started being pushy. People wouldn't let him sit near them. He got into numerous fights. I felt bad, but hey, I wasn't about to stick up for a shit skin in fucking Alabama. That was social suicide.
Sungur left a month later, end of third quarter. We didn't know where he went. Obviosuly, people said that he had fucking fled to go join Al Quaeda. Jesus, we didn't know what we were saying. Sungur died trying to cross the Turkish Syrian border with two of his cousins to join an anti extremist militia. The Kurds thought he was a terrorist. We found out through his mother. She gave us a note.
