I live in one of these regions where this shit happens and I know why it happens. There are two kind of people that do this shit:
Gypsies use the spanish galgo for illegal betting. They breed these dogs so fucking much and in really poor conditions. Is fucking disgusting and I have saw a lot of this kind of shi in their places. Once the dog is old and can't race anymore, they kill it and they kill it in the worst manners that you can imagine. The hung, beat, burn, used them for their pitbulls trainings or just let them roped in a stick until the dog dies of starvation.
The hunters. Most of the hunters don't do that, only those from deep rural zones. They keep their believings you know, and animals in these kind of rural zones are seen as tools. Think about it, 100 years ago (or even 50 years ago in some places in europe) the farmers and other rural workers used animals for all kind of things, like a donkey in the grain mill, an ox for plowing, the dog for hunting... and when these animals were old and could not work anymore they just killed them because it was expensive to maintain them. This is why to our days, in these deep rural zones hunters keep doing this shit, but don't worry, most of them are old and the youngs one don't do that shit. But the gypsies, I know they will do that for ever.
