This is a strange phenomenon I've encountered as an American expat for the last 11 years.
I've lived in Köln 4 years, and man, did average Hans and Kerstein LOVE to tell me in bar conversations all the things the USA was doing wrong and/or should do different.
My response was generally the same:
Me: "Ohh ok. So when are you planning to move to the States?"
Kraut: no no, I'm not moving there.
