Apparently it's to "save the family". Meaning if it turns out your wife cheated on you, and you are raising her child, thinking it's your's, and you find out that child isn't yours, then it would break the relationship between you and your wife's child, and might even make that child fatherless, since you might want to leave that child, or the mother.
To them a father isn't a biological relation, it is a relation of trust, and thus you still have to father your wife's children, even if they aren't yours, because you married her, and thus you have to accept anything that happens.
It also means that if you leave your wife because she cheated on you, because her children aren't yours, then you still have to pay child support after the divorce.
