>that kid who refused to say the pledge of allegiance in class

Why did they do this? I can understand not wanting to pray or whatever, but what would a kid have against his own country in a time where the country was great?
>>
>>70404042
I would refuse to do it just to stir up shit with my teachers. They knew they couldn't do anything about it because our school was considered top notch and they didn't want any controversy in the media
>>
You have 20 seconds to say the pledge of allegiance or your dog dies tomorrow

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all

Also, fuck you.
>>
>>70404176
This. Also because it had god in the pledge. I was beaten 'religiously' as a kid. There was no god then. There is no god now.
>>

I went to a public, secular school. Our class did the pledge of allegiance every day. This was normal for k-12. Nothing like this at university though.
>>
>pledging allegiance to the government

Retards
>>
I never said the Pledge after i turned 18 and didn't for some times before.

The reason why? I found it dishonest.

>I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America;
Okay fair enough; straight forward. But lets see what comes next.
>And to the republic for which it stands.
Okay this is kinda starting to get BS. Yes we are technically a republic but it is no longer a fair republic. Is the public represented much anyone? I don't think so. Doesn't seem like much of a republic to me then unless you are wealthy.
>One Nation
Yeah, okay that is true. But every nation is one nation
>Under God
I don't believe in god and if i did i don't know if America would be his favorite nation right now... kinda doubt it.
>Indivisible
IDK. It did divide for a while and frankly seems fairly broken up and divisible to me.
>With liberty and justice for all
Now that is laying it on pretty fucking thick.

>>
>>70404042
Because it's cringey.

I never did. Why would I recite words I don't actually mean? That's just dishonest. The meaning of the Pledge was lost a long time ago. It's like marriage. No one knows why people get married but do it anyways because it's a tradition. The meaning of marriage was lost long ago.

I'm not going to lie to myself.
>>

as a fascist who believes firmly in totalitarianism, these kinds of authoritarian memes are pleasing to my sieg heiling ears.

I make sure to notify this sensation of elation to American democratics/republicans in the hope that it would inspire some soul searching. Maybe they can decide whether they want a militarist empire ruled by an iron fist or a soggy eurosocialist hegemony because it seems to me they can't decide.
>>
>>70404516
I'm not saying it's ok. That's just what they made us do. Not that it made a difference in my thinking or actions, but watching everyone else robotically recite it was odd. It was Orwellian almost. I imagine that's how people swear loyalty to the Party in 1984.
>>
>>70404042
It's disgusting how little people respect their own country, it's all this muh individualism

I remember being in basic training for the Army and these two Scot's refused to sing God Save the Queen. Which yeah if you're a separatist Scot then fair enough, you might be a retard but at least you have principles. these guys however where in the British Army, and in order to join it requires you to swear an oath to the Crown.
>>
>>70404042

Because I don't swear my allegiance to symbols or the state, fucktard.

That's idolatry.

>b-but people died to protect that flag

They died to protect my right to sit on my ass during a pledge in a public school whose attendance is compulsory to be taught by people who haven't had their morning coffee and would rather not be there.
>>
>>70404042
because i used to be an edgy faggot who didnt pledge because of "muh God" still feel like shit about it, but i feel like im too lost to repent anymore.

They probably only do it in schools to make kids memorize it because it's important.

Besides, they aren't pledging allegiance to the federal government, they're pledging allegiance to the american ideal (Republic, one nation, liberty, justice)

I'm not sure how to feel about it.

On one hand, a little bit of unity and self-respect would be great.

On the other hand, the state doesn't actually care about you that much and pledging allegiance to a pack of politicians and their lobbyist overlords is sad.

If pledges/anthems could somehow cure the middle-class of their absurd self-loathing, I'd be all for it, though. If by saying a simple few words, you could slap straight those fucking chronically depressed losers who feel guilty about not being born into a life of aids and famine, as if it's somehow a bad thing.

Well shit, I'd be all for it.

Hitler was like that and being proud of your nation therefore makes you Hitler. Shrek your privilege, you fascist!

I stopped during my edge lord years in middle school. If I had to go through school all over again, I probably wouldn't anyway because it's just a bunch of words to recite until they have no meaning. If our country wasn't so fucking huge it would have. For small countries, confederations are some of the best forms of government if you're really into states rights, my man.
I fucking hate the south for losing the war and ruining the term "Confederate" as a political ideology.

http://www.royal.gov.uk/MonarchUK/QueenandGovernment/Queenandvoting.aspx

Parliament was suppose to be a voice for the common people to the Crown, but these day's Parliament is completely out of touch with the general public which is why such practices are now redundant.

However the keys to the Queens popularity is her neutrality and ability to Transcend petty party squabbles. If she was to involve herself in such thing's the risk of turning people against the Monarchy is high, even now the future of the Monarchy is uncertain once she dies. She has made the right choice for the big picture, if the crown falls so does British national identity and the repercussions will be much worse than the current migration crisis. We're not Schengen so we are not in the same risk category as mainland Europe just yet.

Shut your fucking mouth, Germany. How can a nation have that much collective guilt to make it a bad thing to have pride for your fucking country? It's admirable, because if they did throw their oar in politics in this country would collapse, with Parliament and the Crown getting into hissy-fits over everything.

We'd basically get Civil War 2: Electric Boogaloo, wasting time, effort, lives, money and reputation for little gain.

I DON'T KNOW THE REST
PUPPER NO
>>
I only did it when i had homeroom with a teacher that took it seriously. It was worth it not to lose their good side.

I still think a daily pledge is pretty cultish and at the time i was fairly liberal and skeptical of intense patriotism because they held assemblies where military guys told us America is the best country in the world, which i couldnt prove or disprove.

The USA doesnt need to ask for my pledge of allegience because its already earned it.

simple displays of national unity did not create the overwhelming mass immigration we have now. The globalists who hate national sovereignty created it. The lack of nationalism allowed this

To be fair, current social climate teaches everyone the are a special snowflake which breeds contempt for conformity. As a dumb kid it's hard to see why this is wrong and part of maturing is developing your political ideal's.

Hitler said that nobody should enter a political arena before the age of 30 because our ideas are too fluid before then but if a politician flip flops he looses all credibility. I think he is 100% right, how many people spend their younger years (normally in an education bubble) supporting Marxism only to completely reverse stance once they mature

All I needed to do was stand up, I didn't see much point in doing the rest. There were people at my shool who would vigorously enforce the pledge and send you to detention if they saw you sitting down or wearing a hat but while standing you just blend in with everyone else. I got some riles out of a few schoolgirls but other than that no one ever noticed. It's a horrible tradition that only mouth breathers in bumfuck nowhere still think is sacred and I'm glad it pisses them off when I don't do it.

There were a few classes where the teachers lacked a disciplinarian hold on the room such that almost nobody stood for the pledge, simply out of laziness. Some days nobody at all would even listen as they recited it over the PA.
It was at this time that I made a point to start doing it every day (partly bc I was an edgy contrarian), because to me there was a big difference between respectfully declining to recite it and ignoring it out of pure laziness, talking to our shit friends throughout the whole thing.
I wasn't trying to make any statement with this I just thought one person in the room might set a different example. A few others joined me eventually.
