Ok, so NASA has basically come out and said that they are cautious about this "planet nine", and they aren't ruling out it's existence due to the recent discovery by the College students at the university of Louisiana, so is it official /pol/? Is doomsday upon us? Of course NASA wouldn't say we're all going to die because they wouldn't cause a state of panic but if the college students discovered it and say that it has been systematically ethnic cleansing earth of all it's living species for a billion years (the cause for all the many extinctions, dinosaurs, ect) who's to say it isn't true? They were smart enough to uncover the anomalies caused by it so their opinion of it fucking us shouldn't be discarded completely.

It supposedly passes Earth every what, 26,000 years or something like that? So why are the extinctions only like 1/1,000 that often?

I'm not trying to discredit it, I genuinely want someone who knows more about this to answer my question.

Whitmire published findings earlier this year connecting the undiscovered Planet X to mass extinctions on Earth, according to Phys.org. The research was published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. The theory is that an undiscovered planet triggers comet showers that are tied to multiple mass extinction events in Earth’s history. Every 27 million years, this planet passes through a distant Kuiper belt of comets, knocking comets into our solar system. These comets then smash into the Earth and, the ones that don’t, disintegrate as they get near the sun, blocking some sunlight from reaching our planet.

Based on your posts (not the OP posts) it looks like the planet supposedly has an orbit of about 15,000 Earth years, but crosses the Kuiper Belt every 27,000,000 Earth years, and causes comets from the Kuiper Belt to hit Earth.
>>

>>70386252

you're retarded

we can detect galaxies easily because they put off a lot of light

some shit planet out in the distance of our solar system wont put out light, so we cant see it

>>
why is it called planet x if it's the 9th planet?

shouldn't it be planet ix?
>>
>>70387078
It will pass through the astroid belt and send a bunch of comets our way. Maybe one of them will be Yuuuuge
>>

>These comets then smash into the Earth and, the ones that don’t, disintegrate as they get near the sun, blocking some sunlight from reaching our planet.
That's really really dumb. Do you know what kind of fucking precision a comet needs to hit the earth? Also there probably isn't enough material in the kuiper belt to block the sun out from earth for long enough to cause a problem that fucking comet would have to be so big that it would literally be a planet at that point.
>>
>>70387078
It might have a bunch of satellites/meteors orbiting it that might get pulled away and sent on a trajectory course toward Earth, too.
>>
Man, if you think this theory is nuts, look into the Electric Universe shit. Especially Thunderbolts' Alien Skies videos.

that's sure as shit no asteroid, only the most powerful telescopes can resolve asteroids beyond specks of light, and even their capability in that regard is limited

Considering how large Jupiter is and its relative angular size in this image I would guess that is more than likely something terrestrial or a passing satellite, dust specks in telescopic images tend to be darker than that.

>>
>>70392994
... No, that's the point. If it's close to completing it's orbit it'll be coming on to view which would obviously prove it and it's the effect the gravitational pull has on the Kuiper belts that would influence the comet issue, which according to the maths is also extremely unlikely which would explain why something drastic only happens once every 30 million years or whatever as opposed to our planet being basically uninhabitable due to extinction events every 27 thousand years.
>>
>>70392750
We also rotate around the sun every 365 days you fucknut. We would be able to see if for like half the year
>>
>>70383928
Either that or faggots see "it causes extinctions sometimes" and "it's passing Earth soon" and are too stupid to realize that passing Earth has nothing to do with the extinctions. But if they're correct then yeah apparently it's going to pass the kuiper belt soon.
>>70387078
I believe the doomsday theory is that it will make comets hit Earth, I don't think it has anything to do with the planet coming close enough to Earth to affect us. It is 1000 times the distance from the Sun as Earth so it shouldn't affect us directly, just maybe indirectly (i.e. send a comet into us)
>>70386252
This planet is supposedly 1,000 times as far from the Sun as Earth is from the Sun. So... might be hard to detect. Galaxies are what, quintillions the size of a planet? Octillions? (point is, well over 6,000,000) A lot farther away but big enough and bright enough to detect.

And humans have been around for 1 million years, which means that Planet X would completed 38 orbits and no mass extinctions. And the last mass extinction by a meteorite happened over 60 million years, so that means it completed over 2280 orbits with no major extinction events.

And even if this planet did send some comet and debris towards Earth, it probably won't reach us for a few hundred years anyway because material from the Oort is really far away.

We have discovered that planets can be pitch black. 99+% absorption.

We only discovered one of those planets because it was huge and super close to it's parent star so it's 1000F atmosphere was glowing brightly in infrared.

Also, even if it did emit or reflect some type of light, few realize how tedious work it is to scan a sky for a planet like this. It isn't just as simple as pointing the camera lens and taking a snapshot. It requires sometimes days of exposure time on a very small area, taking a break for a week, and then taking another picture to see if anything moved.

>April 28th, 2016
>Planet 9 has begun the dance of death with earth
>right when the collision is imminent, the planet suddenly freezes in position
>everyone is taken aback by this miracle
>a crystalline bridge a few kilometers wide extends down from the planet to earth
>a giant green entity strides down the bridge, stopping midway
>in a bellowing voice that is heard across the globe, it proclaims
>"give me those who follow the path of memetic salvation"
>many humans walk forward, including some SJWs and land whales
>the Titan's eyes start to glow
>"INFIDELS!!"
>the SJWs are disintegrated
>"ONLY TRUE FOLLOWERS OF KEK MAY WALK UPON THE BRIDGE OF POWER"
>the small group of channers gather on the crystal bridge
>it retracts back into the milky atmosphere of the mysterious planet
>a whining noise is hear across the world
>the noise grows in volume
>the planet moves away from earth and then disappears
>the noise stops
>the day goes down in history as the day "we don't remember, and don't want to"
