The issue the reserve system.
My ancestors who were native have not lived on reserve for over 100 years.
We hare fine. My Great Great Grandpa said "where the white women at" and moved to the city.
We have been fine ever since.
The issue is how the treaty system works, it gives chief families the power of Kings because in the 1850s when most treaties were signed Canada was ruled by a King so it made sense to give them crazy rights.
Today it means that typically 1-3 families control all jobs on the reserve so nearly everyone is poor and it is legal for the chief to never create jobs to help them.
Native families who live off the reserve as all fine.

My cousins don't because you dont pay property tax, tax on gasoline or tax on home ownership on a reserve so in the short term it is great. If you happen to live on a reserve close enough to a major city where you commute to work you can make and save a lot.
The issue is that a lot of reserve are literal in the middle of no where and cannot benefit from this but people still do not move so that they can stay close to family and can benefit from not paying property tax on a small shitty property.

I am white but grew up in a remote northern reservation town. I don't think I had any white friends until age 7. So I had a pretty clear perspective on native issues.
