Sorry, too busy having -another world first- technology breakthrough.

I'll be sure to check what you have to say later on the internet which I'm responsible for inventing or maybe you can give me a call (which I also invented).

If you don't want to that's fine you can watch a movie which we created on your TV powered by electricity (which we created).

No, it's the engines that cost a fortune, the Falcon 9 has 10 of these incredibly complex pieces of engineering on it, landing the first stage means 9 of them can be reused.
>>
>>70385403
They're flammable...

Seriously though, the forces involved would probably destroy a parachute. Even landing pods equipped with parachutes still used rockets to slow down.

>>
>>70385437
Yeah, but you are paying for the engineering, not the metal. I would imagine the rare metals are only used in very small amount in important engine elements in an alloy, so I'm trying to figure out how much this helps humanity.

I mean, until we have a reason to make constant trips back and forth from the moon (or space in gen.), this tech isnt too useful, other than lowering the cost.

I assume the plan is to think about space mining next, now that we have reusable rockets. But boy, thats probably gonna be 1000 times harder to figure out how to automate.

Imagine landing a rocket with tons of ore loaded up. Not to mention you'll have to land twice, or use two rockets that meet in a space station.

A lot to think about, really.

>>
>>70386169
Money is just paper, guy.

The Earth has a lot more metal than we can use up, and the engineers should want to make more money, and hence not make reusable rockets, hence they should be considering moving forward as I was talking about, ie space mining, space tourism, etc

But as regards space tourism, good look finding enough millionaires willing to risk their lives on an unproven technology to make up the loss in profits you forced by making your own product cheaper without a reason to use it.
>>
>>70385598
Thanks again Italy. I got some more from NASA and the ISS too. I've been following them for a while now. They do regular Q&A's from the space station if your interested. But they don't make any more money per launch you utter mong. Did you mother drop you as a child? The profit margin on a launch will remain the same, this lets SpaceX slash their costs and so slash prices. Thus they gain as they're cheaper than their competitors and should win more launch contracts.

You guys wouldn't do very well in business.

The rocket industry companies make a shitload of money because the governments have to pay them for every new rocket, funded by tax payer money.

If they make the product cheaper, without making a good reason for governments to fund rocket use more, they are going to fuck themselves over.

Thats why I assumed SpaceX doesn't get the contracts to make new rockets from the government now, and worked on this technology to offer a lower price and win the contracts.

I see no big progress, just a smart company cornering a market by producing a long over due innovation that lowers prices.

Until we find out how to harvest materials in space and use these rockets to collect and bring them back, there is no purpose other than SpaceX becoming a successful company.

Dunno, aliumz would probably have plenty of reasons for interacting with humans, like trade. >YOU ARE NOT 1/2 a step below a creature that has interstellar capabilities. You don't even fucking register as alive to it.

So your argument is that sufficient levels of intelligence wraps around and makes aliumz too fucking retarded to talk to humans? Nah. Also, being able to travel between solar systems doesn't necessarily mean you're super star trek land with a post-scarcity economy.

>An interstellar species will use human-tier (and bad ones at that) labor and economic principles

So your theory is, what, because you can get a ship from one solar system to another (possibly as small as a one 'man' vessel that takes hundreds of years of suspended animation) you can automatically carry bajillions of robots within your cargo bay? Or do you envision nanodust that you can sprinkle on the ground and it makes robot armies pop up? Or what?

If aliens want any amount of solar system resources, its probably going to be easiest, by far, to utilize local labor, period.

You don't seem to really understand how distant two solar systems are, how much work it is to get from one to the other, and so forth. If exploiting resources from other solar systems is at all feasible then its going to be sending small ships and getting locals to send back a fleet of cargo ships back. Unbelievably more profitable than sending all your equipment there AND back.

Your faith based beliefs are touching, yet irrelevant. There's as many reasons to think we're the most advanced sapient species in the galaxy as the least. If people found, say, a weird squirrel that could talk and was banging sticks together to make fire the world would flip its shit.

And don't tell me that if in 2050 we were able to send a small ship in stasis to Alpha Centauri, then suddenly 2050 humans would be so far past 2016 humans that we're below squirrels that can make fire.

>HUE HUE HUE im 74. inches tall
Not even comparable since metric units are base 10 and it's easy to swap between different scales. 185cm just sounds better than 1.85m
Same reason a person would be 80kg and not 80000g or 0.080Mg

In things like Soyuz and Apollo descent capsules you undergo acceleration whilst lying on your back as the thing hurtles through the upper atmosphere to aerobrake down from 17000MPH
