This thread is full of ignorants. The GOP can't afford to steal the nomination away from Trump in a brokered convention. Trump supporters overwhelmingly oppose it when asked "How would you feel if in a contested convention if the party chose a nominee that did not have the most delegates going in?" Cruz supporters also oppose such a thing in the majority. Even a decent chunk of Kasich supporters say they'd be angry if the GOP did that.
What the fuck is the GOP going to do? Destroy the party? They don't have a choice. If Trump walks into that convention with more delegates than anyone else, they either have to nominate him or give him so many concessions that he decides to bow out on his own.
If the GOP doesn't treat Trump fairly, and gets behind Cruz instead, they'll lose the White House and take significant losses in Congressional races. If they pass over Cruz and Trump both, and nominate Kasich or Paul Ryan or whomever, the party will collapse. They will alienate a large portion of their core constituents (who will turn to new parties or the Libertarian Party, especially if Trump or Cruz supports them), and the Democrats will lock them out of both houses of Congress and the White House for at least four years. Even after that, some of those conservative voters won't come back and demographic changes will have punctured the GOP tent essentially forever. It'll have to radically change its ideas.

People would accept if say, Ted Cruz dropped out and said "I think my delegates should all vote for Yeb." Which is not something I can see Trump doing without significant concessions by the party. The only way they can wrangle it so that the people will support the party choice is if the candidates themselves back another candidate and "their" delegates follow along.
If the first round goes through, and then all of Trump and Cruz's delegates jump ship to nominate Paul Ryan, and neither Trump nor Cruz supported them doing so, it will be widely perceived as voter fraud and break the party.
