I heard this proposition before. It seem reasonable on the surface. The problem I have with it is that Christianity is monotheistic, has a dualistic theology between creation and creator, believes only the creator may be worshiped alone and not the creation, and salvation is through the creator rather than the self or creation. Paganism, from what I understand, is polytheistic, sees nature and man as inherently linked, sees creation and the creators nearly the same, or at least both worthy of worship. The symbolism are similar but the theology. who is to be worshiped and how, are too different, in my eyes, to call them one and the same.
