There was a video of a former KGB psy ops agent who basically explained this entire phenomenon.

While I would like to think that this is happening, I think this is more of a case of these post-modernist ideologies just collapsing under their own weight. These movements were hardly ever logically consistent to begin with and as they became more and more extreme, to the point where it's almost impossible to distinguish truth from parody in some instances, the original message or objective they were trying to achieve became diluted. This is why only a small few of the people who actually identify with these ideologies can actually articulate anything when questioned.
Most of their supporters are just people who have glommed onto something they think will give their lives a greater purpose or meaning, without actually considering any of actual arguments behind these movement.
