We usually define Jewishness, proper Judaism, as beginning with the writing of the torah, which is usually put somewhere around 1500BC-1000BC.
However, if you read the OT (torah) you'll see numerous references to them still worshipping other gods, etc..

This is a complicated topic. In fact, the vast majority of them do not believe the hocus-pocus in their Talmud, but the ice of being "Chosen" and therefore of Jewish supremacy is deeply ingrained in even the most secular of Jews.

In terms of actual "betrayals," the most obvious instances are the muslim conquests of Spain and Constantinople.
the jews greeted the mudslimesas "liberators," and in many vases literally opened the gates for them or guided them into screw passages into the city. This is probably the main reason they were expelled from Spain in 1492, the same year Ferdinand and Isabella reconquered Spain.
