Is it not enough to fight for one's nation? Why must you attribute the moniker of "freedom" to this endeavour? Historically, very few wars have been fought to attain freedom. A case can be made however, that by securing the stability of the state, the army secures your freedom.

well I'm joining the airforce. The pay is literally the same between them all except airforce and navy are technical jobs with better bases, and if you wanted to be a badass in the infantry join the marines. The army seems almost redundant.
