I've lost a few internet "friends" who went psycho when I tried to explain that Trump has a huge media bias against him, and wasn't as bad if you actually read into his policies. I have friends in a very "Eastern European" manner, friends who I might not enjoy the company as much as some, but whom I trust. I might not agree with them always, but we stick by each other. I want to understand it also. I know that a large part of the reason is because most people just follow whatever someone else is doing or telling them. It's the way it has always been regardless of whether you think the reasons are good or just.
Personally I have "hooked up" a few times, but I never enjoyed it and left feeling like complete shit. Aside from that I have been in a number of long term relationships and those are infinitely more preferable to having shallow sex with strangers or friends.
