I don't agree with social engineering by the state, but the purpose of government regulated marriage is to allow tax breaks for married couples incentivizing the creation of stable families. There nothing wrong with gay marriage, it is more so a problem with any type of marriage being regulated by the state, which is only done so to control the society of the country. That is the only reason to be against it, because once they are no longer directly paying to have more families, they don't have anything to gain.
Right now, sure. No immediate problems. It makes everyone happy. People get what they want. The non-gays aren't bothered by it.
But let's look at the long run. Generations and generations later, what will it be like? Gay marriages do not lead to the prospering and succeeding of human life. The obvious answer, is that biologically, they can't reproduce, but even with adoption, people should have a mother and a father.
They are different, and we need both. We need that nurturing mother figure to coddle us, to comfort us, and we need that father figure to show authority, to discipline us. Without one, there is an imbalance.
In the long run, it will not be good for humankind. It is degeneration.
