Stave lake is a great spot to do both those things, its much better if you can camp with your boat and get good spots up the north side and on the east bank of the southside. Really beautiful.
Alouette lake is very close to it and just as beautiful, but a little more populous.
Farther east is Cultus Lake, very pristine for a popular lake spot (my grandparents have lived there for 10 years).
If it's ocean you're looking for, boat up Indian Arm (great spot at the end of the inlet for the salmon run) and camp at Granite Falls. Great swimming there, just don't die.
If you drive to the BC interior, you'll get the okanogan valley and it's not so forested like the coast, but it has awesome wine country and lakes to boot.
Drive north of Vancouver and you'll find endless camping.
If you have a houseboat and plan on doing long boat trips, that's a whole different story I've seen a lot of the BC coast!

And multiculturalism hasn't been a part of our "identity" for that long. Sure it was introduced in 1971 but it wasn't until the 90s that I noticed people actively using the term and celebrating diversity. Lots of Toronto whites hate immigrants because we have had to put up with them for so long. Another thing we could do is encourage hunting and fishing so Canadians can appreciate our beautiful land and use our rugged people and country to revive our lost national pride.
