Most everything.
Modern Swiss life is boring as shit. Things run so smoothly here, we have no drama, no excitement, no passion... And we didn't even fight in a world war, ever. No empire, no nothing. Just beautiful landscapes and the greatest political system in the world.

That's a common misconception. We mostly got rich by not having any copyright laws for the longest time, so we could copy shit and catch up, which was the fundament for all the (chemical) industry in Basel (e.g. Novartis) and what not.
Sure, that's just one factor out of many. But certainly more important than the swiss bankster meme. Not even speaking of rural switzerland (i.e. the largest part) which was still piss poor long into the cold war (so after nazi gold memes).

exactly

this is true. most of our money comes from manufactured goods, pharmaceuticals, and many non-banking services. the banks don't account for a lot more, percentage-wise, than they do in France or Germany.
Also: if you really wanna get some insight into "what went right" with Switzerland, you have to look up Alfred Escher:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Escher
The quint-essence here would probably be that you need the right/strong people at the right place and time to make things really happen. Without individuals like him (that's where banks, trains and universities come into play) Switzerland would be nothing.
Well, the flags a big plus.

Sure. Nothing wrong with that.
Interesting trade routes have always led through Switzerland, hence the flow of interesting people and knowledge - all without (direct) access to the sea.
That's also why we've built that crazy tunnel and voted for even more...
