sven, I know your kind is extremely unintelligent, but I will try my best to explain it in a very simple way. publishing papers is very easy and a given when you are a phd candidate. getting a phd is very easy. what matters is the content. and a great measurement for that is wealth. is she a self made millionaire? no? then whatever she has accomplished won't be of value

Being able to pass classes and get job offers (most of which were probably done as publicity stunts desu) isn't what makes a good scientist. She'll probably have a very successful career in physics, but those are hardly the hallmarks of scientific genius.

I have never heard of anyone bringing up Einstein as an inventor of the atomic bomb in any history class or history book. Einstein had nothing to do with the development apart from telling the US government "Hey, I don't like the idea of atomic weapons, but if you don't build one first, the Nazi's or the Soviets will".

>>70262437
Michelson contributed nothing to the formulation of relativity. Michelson was a proponent of the Luminiferous Aether model and his experiments were all designed with the express purpose of proving the existence of the aether.

Lorentz and Poincare's work on transformation and invariance of electromagnetic fields laid the mathematical framework but they never took it further than hypothetical applications to Maxwell's Laws. Einstein proved that Lorentz's transformation laws and the rules of invariance for electromagnetic fields were a direct consequence of postulating a constant speed of light. He also proved that things like time dilation and length contraction weren't mathematical artifacts as Lorentz and Poincare had assumed, but physical phenomena with startling implications about the nature of the physical universe and our observations of it.

Fuck off.

His contribution was recognising that there is no universal frame of reference, but rather that it is dependent upon the observer. Einstein himself said that simply assuming that was not even half satisfying, although general relativity improved upon that quite a bit. Sure, he gets way to much credit for special relativity, but although the formulas had been around for decades scientists just couldn't let go of the concept of the ether until Einstein came along. His was a bold assumption to make, and one that turned out to be true

Combination of burn out, failure to meet expectations, chronic depression and social anxiety, and a lack of goals. They achieve a lot in their youth to impress their parents, who are so batshit crazy that they force their kids into college at 15 and parade them around national television. Kids never really learn to socially connect with other children or express themselves.

Being smart is great, but it's very unlikely you'll achieve anything massive even if you are a genius. More likely you fail to feed your own exceptions and begin to realize your life is literally hollow, then drift into depression. You soon realize your parents only coached you into a genius so they could parade you around in a show of narcissistic grandeur of their own fabulous parenting, rather than to actually better you.

It's too much pressure for kids to handle.
>>
>>70264565

Fusion does already work to a certain extend, see

Warp drives, on the other hand, might continue to stay science fiction, but it might be physically possible.

NASA's Eagleworks lab is working primarily on Quantum Vacuum Plasma Thrusters(ie. EMDrive, Cannae Drive). But as a side project, they're also working on proving that warp is possible. Keyword there: possible. As in, they're working on simply detecting whether they can warp spacetime or not.

I'm crossing my fingers on both. I want to believe.

Which has more chance of success? The EMDrive which allegedly already exists but breaks Newton's Laws of Motion or the warp drive which doesn't exist but is consistent with General Relativity?

Same I want to believe as well. Mars in a week motherfuckers!
>>
>>70273409
The EMDrive right now is mostly likely. But according to Sonny White, the lead physicist at Eagleworks, apparently the success of EMDrive will in some ways help with proving warp as it applies to the theoretical Alcubierre Warp Drive.

>Mars in a week motherfuckers!
That'd be great, but we're already working on the way to Mars in 6 months utilizing chemical propulsion. I'm not sure if you keep up with this sort of thing, but Elon Musk is going to be releasing the overall blueprint for SpaceX's plan to send humans to Mars later this year. The Mars Colonial Transporter is still just on paper, but the Methane/LOX engines that will power it are already under development.

>I thought the MCT was ion powered?
Nope. It's going to be powered by a large number of Methalox Raptor engines. The reason is due to the fact that fuel for the return to Earth can be produced via the Sabatier Reaction on Mars.

>And 6 months with chemical propulsion is a stretch. Best I've heard is 8 months.
Not at all. It's a simple matter of having enough fuel to reach Earth-Mars Transfer velocity(and slow down when you arrive). Not to mention that they're going to be using free-return trajectories every two years near optimal alignment. Apparently, the foundational work that it is partially based upon is Zubrin's Mars Direct program(outlined in the book and documentary: The Case For Mars). It can be done, and be done economically as well with full-reusability.

>What's Earth-Mars transfer velocity? Some sort of escape velocity?
It's technically called a Trans-Mars Injection(TMI), but the velocity depends upon when you choose to leave. Some months are better than others depending upon the orbital alignment at departure. There's a NASA pdf on this which is pretty detailed but full of physicspeak(which is funny given this thread) here: http://www.cs.odu.edu/~mln/ltrs-pdfs/NASA-99-aas103-mmm.pdf
I'll save you the search and tell you that the information you want is near the top of page 5. The absolute minimum-energy trajectory in 2022 is 18.4km/sec. For the 180 day trajectory that year, the required performance capability is 19.8km/sec.

>I keep hearing about this Raptor, what are the details of it?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raptor_(rocket_engine)
It's technically a family of engines. The DoD has just given SpaceX a grant to develop a smaller Raptor upper-stage engine for the Falcon 9/Heavy too. And yeah, I'm quite optimistic that SpaceX will be able to do it. They haven't let us down yet.
