This main character of Rogue One appears to be a female, the leader of the Rebellion, Mon Mothma, is a female.
The only male characters that we are going to get are bad guys, scoundrels (Han-Solo esk characters ), or "white knights" like Finn or some other ex-jedi wise man shit.
In the Force Awakens, Rey is a way more developed character in terms of personality and back story than Finn, while not being a minority. (Straight white women living in the west are the most privileged class in the history of our species).
