Yes he's a pretty controversial figure, I get it. Any resources which show his shit being debunked? I've been interested in cognitive development recently because I can attribute many of my problems to early childhood. Maybe he's the wrong place to look.

I think everyone here is focusing on his theories, which were very wrong and aren't considering the fact that he is the person that made psychology a science. That is why Freud is important, not any of his bullshit theories.
Also, he has some interesting papers on human nature being really base and cruel and pushing for totalitarianism, which is really interesting in the context of when he was alive and how it's part of the turn away from liberalism after ww1.
All in all, pretty important figure
