That's amazing news. With electric vehicles and our domestic oil production we could easily be energy independent with the right govt in place.

But they have to be manufactured somewhere with lots of energy and recharging them doesn't come from nowhere.

Gigafactory and the Tesla plant run on lots of solar and wind, and remember Musk also owns SolarCity which is a major installer of panels.

It's way less than 200 miles. If a car can handle a 200 mile round-trip commute, it already covers the needs for 99.999% of the population.

See graph.

To cover the needs for 70% of the population, you only need to manage ~8 miles round-trip per day.

All EV manufacturers have battery warranties available where you can swap out your battery for a brand new one after x years.

These batteries aren't actually useless, they can still be used in an electric vehicle if necessary, but even in a situation where they can no longer handle that sort of rapid charge/discharge, they're still good for energy storage in the home - which is something Musk is doing with refurbished battery packs, which tesla sells as their "powerwall" product. (Although I understand that the next step with it is to use brand new batteries once the nevada factory is running)

>Amongst their competitors
No, amongst their competitors in the states

You're the ones with an outdated middleman making all your vehicles more expensive than they need to be.

And that also isn't a subsidy - I suggest you actually go look up the meaning of the word.

In fact, Tesla's having to fight court battles just to be able to sell direct to the customer.

And they're avoiding dealerships, not because they want to cut out the middleman, but because the dealerships don't like selling electric vehicles to people. It makes too much business sense for Tesla to avoid them.

Basically, you're grasping at straws, and will continue to do so.

Subsidies aren't expected to be paid back or come as part of a contract, as the already paid back loan to Tesla, and the CCDEV program contracts have been.

But the factories and benefits?
Sure, but why blame Musk?
Wouldn't it be the fault of the state governments that tripped over themselves to finance those projects, and not the man who took advantage of it like a good businessman?

200 miles isn't short range, it covers the daily commute needs of the entire population.

There's almost nobody who commutes even 100 miles per day.

Well, Teslas are horrible to be honest. The only ones who buy them are stupid hipsters.

I like the early Teslas and the ida behind them, had the luck to drive the Tesla Roadster, had a very nice Lotus-esque feel to it.

Then they ruined it. The horrible bloated piece of shit with horrible design and ergonomics. My neighbor's son has the Model S and I asked to have a look once. Feels like a children's bumper car and sounds the same and the build quality isn't worth the 120.000 euro. I don't even know why would he waste the money, instead of just buying an S class Benz.

Its 67% and its very inefficient to go from a plant, across the power lines, to the charger, to your car battery and then to the wheels.

Its more efficient at this point to improve the efficiency of new cars.

>I believe the price will rise once the gigafactory finishes.
That's because you are a huge moron. The market also knows the gigafactory will finish soon and start buying large orders of lithium.

>Can't go wrong investing into lithium
If that were true then we could all get rich buying lithium, because it can always go up right!?

There is no such thing as a good stock. Only one that is currently undervalued. Everyone and their dog knows demand for lithium will increase over the next few years, and has bought mining stock and lithium ore to reflect that expectation.

You obviously aren't a car enthusiast.

There is a reason some supercars don't have an ESP or any steering assistances and most have them as an option only.

Because the feeling of driving is superior to speed. Even the luxuries like Aston Martin go out of their way to keep the feeling. You can feel every tiny rock in Aston's steering wheel and it's amazing.

Then comes the Tesla and decides the only thing a car needs to have is an acceleration.

>Then comes the Tesla and decides the only thing a car needs to have is an acceleration.
And it turns out that's what the vast majority of the world cares about.

Tesla could ass feedback to feel every rock through the steering wheel if they really wanted though.

Bigger problem is finding a damn station. Unless things have changed in the past year, owning a car pretty much means you have to plot your trips carefully to get anywhere.

I'm in the DC area and I've only ever seen 2 stations.

I support this for the sake of industriousness

have a look at the map:
https://www.teslamotors.com/en_GB/supercharger?redirect=no

There is a tesla supercharger within driving distance of literally everywhere in the US.And they are doubling the super chargers in the US this year.

Mostly coal and natural gas, which is produced domestically. Less than 2% of electricity comes from oil. You should kill yourself and learn to analyze data.

Because of this, buying an ICE is the equivalent of funding terrorism, and should be taxed as such. (taking into account the externalities of how much it costs to send all those bombs over.)

The problem is they will never want it.

A luxury car manufacturer isn't shit until they have a racing history. It has to grow out of racing, otherwise you will get these horrible nu-male pieces of shit you are seeing now.

>A luxury car manufacturer isn't shit until they have a racing history
Oh is that so. I guess Elon will just have to cry himself to sleep. Drying his tears with print outs of model S reviews rating it the best car in the world, and the the profits from the cars he can't make enough of to keep up with demand.

You sound like a bitter german who's entire car industry is about to get fucked.

Thats good news. But those station locations are still shit and a major downside. Shit just the two closest to me are 20+ miles apart from each other and completely out of the way of a normal drive. And you're just fucked if you don't live in a hippie state.

Its a great idea that will hopefully succeed, its going to take a lot more time to catch on as long as you need a real car coupled with it.

Burgers are the dumbest fucks on this board. They literally need other countries to tell them why their own companies are good.
