It was pretty terrible tbqh. The fight scenes were crippled by female athletics. And the whole "I'm a strong woman stop trying to help me" thing was pretty unappealing.
Besides that, their focus on being nostalgic broke the third wall and ruined the movie even more than the diversity did. Disappointing star wars movie, would not recommend.

Daisy Ridley was great in The Force Awakens so I don't know why we need another female lead character who propably will be as Mary Sue as Rey.

I have my doubts about the lead, but it might turn out okay. I thought Rei sucked in TFA. One of the major things i hated about the film.
I have no problem with female leads, so long as they don't suck. And I'm only triggered when they suck and everyone thinks they are brave and courageous and I'm a sexist for not enjoying their performance.

The Boss was one of the very few Female Hero/Soldier characters done right.
And I wish that she was used as the template for it in the future. Unfortunately all we keep getting is "I'm a woman and I kick ass just because girl power!".
The Boss was a hard bitch who sacrificed everything for everyone, and her back story is about how limited women can be and what they can be used for. Compare with Danaerys Targaryen, who fucks everything up because she thinks with her cunt, or Rey from THAT, who has no real explanation in her movie for her abilities other than she has a vagina.
I think the biggest mistake they made was having those horrendous CGI AT-ATs

This. She was extremely well written, and was able to be sexualized or have her gender addressed at times without it demeaning her character or making her feel ridiculous, or pandery. The boss is easily one of the best female characters ever made. Not to mention being th catalyst for everything that came after her essentially.
I like Felicity Jones but this movie will probably be shit.
I heard the biggest issue with star wars girl was just that she was generally a poor actress beyond anything else.

women can have power, importance and attention
we are doing more to highlight how they can be good as men. they aren't just objects, cooks or cleaners - they can be sophisticated and empowered
and i think a lot of people find the concept of empowered women (one who can say no and determine her life course) to be quite intimidating

women can be strong as well, own businesses and have freedom. they owe nothing to men

Rey isn't sophisticated though. Her personality is yet to be fully explored; so far, the only character trait she's shown is saving her buddy (Finn) when he's in trouble, which is pretty ordinary for a protagonist.
