You might not expect it, but big powers like Russia or China LOVE monarchs. They have grace, they stay for a long time (as opposed to presidents) and can keep up relations.
Furthermore, don't nag about money, Norway. Just make sure you don't enter the EU and don't allow to many immigrants in and you'll stay one of the richest country in Europe. Even with paying for the royals.
