I think that when alcohol was first introduced in Europe and Asia, that the people who would wind up being alcoholics died off or didn't reproduce as much, so after a few thousand years a lot of that got sorted out. It's pretty interesting, I like it more as a theoretical exercise, than the gospel truth, a lot of what he says makes sense, but at the same time ignores a lot of actual important historical events to examine the underpinning ecology / continental wide patterns.

Let's be honest this is EXACTLY why. European people HAD to accurately project far future events or they died. It's why their religions revolved around pleasing the gods so their crops would produce enough to not have people starve.
Africans had a veritable super market in front of them and were built perfectly for the climate.
The ability of long term planning and thinking was selected for in European people and not in Africans. We even see this reflected in modern data for example in the USA;
