He fell off/got pushed off a stage one time and that fucked him up for a while, but he was never shot.
I got to see Zappa Plays Zappa back in 2013 at the Roxy, 40th anniversary of when Frank played there, his son is a great guitarist but he doesn't have the stage presence that his dad had.

I read his bio, he got really vitriolic near the end of his life about stuff. You can here it in his music as well. Loved his early musical work and think he had some decent view for his time. But the fact that the bullshit got to him and made him so angry makes me kinda sad.
