The same way muslim terrorists are (nominally) winning now. Big armies have no idea how to deal with insurgencies. This was especially true of England, they expected us to wage war in the normal for the time way: line up and shoot each other very formally so that superior numbers would win. They had no idea how to deal with America hiding in bushes and sniping, using the terrain to their advantage.

Years later when we were a superpower we learned none of these lessons and we lost Vietnam for exactly the same reason. Had Iraq and Afghanistan had better cover for the insurgents and if they had had more fighters and better equipment we probably would have lost those too.

If you're talking about the revolutionary war then it was because the British people were reluctant to fund a war at a time when England was struggling to do well economically at home as Imunderstand it.

They basically did a cost-benefit analysis and concluded that continuing to send troops and supplies across the Atlantic were not worth the trouble of gaining whatever the fledgling colonies had to offer in terms of product.

We did not lose Vietnam Militarily every fight was our fight. We devastated the NVA. The average solider thinks "We won every battle yet we still lost the war." The hippies fucked us.

Logistics are hard as shit to move across oceans, especially when there's no ability to monitor ships coming in.

And America is BIG. Even the 13 colonies only is fuck-huge for the era.

And we had French support.

There's a lot of factors that get involved, but a lot of it comes down to "you can't kill your way to victory, and the other option is expensive". The Brits were stretched as much as they could be.

We lost any political gain from Nam, so yes we lost nam no matter how many gooks we killed.
Before that we lost 1812 when our entire Capitol was burned down. I don't give a shit what Andrew Jackson managed to pull off in New Orleans, it didn't consitute a victory.
We do not have a flawless military record. Get over it.
>>

Well a bunch of peasants managed to keep the US engaged for 12 years with heavy loses on our side until America lost its will to keep fighting. As soon as we left Vietnam reunified as a communist country and we accomplished not much in a decade of occupation.
>>
>>70187059
Not saying we did also fuck 1812 look at what we did to York we had it coming. But the point is we are hard bastards.
>>
>>70187114
Look at Vietnam now its capitalistic. Lol sorry for dieing Minh
>>
French support, the British were in a really shitty position at the time, they were in debt to other countries and short on manpower after they finished a war just a few years before the revolution. Given it 10-40 more years and the U.S would have lost, they chose a good time to make their move.
>>
>>70184886
Casue Britain sucked ass.

France is truly our greatest ally

>Capitalistic

You clearly have not been to Vietnam, or your just looking at it from just what you can see from the streets.

Albeit, it was always a more liberal communist society and not particularly strict like China was before the 80's.

Were Brits really this stupis?

A quick search shows about a 20 second reload time with muskets used in the era, it would be like taking turns to fire which is probably why they marched in columns so that the next guy can get a shot while you reload.
>>
>>70187059

Dude, he didn't say we won Vietnam.

He said the reason we DIDN'T was NOT because of our military exchanges.

Chill the fuck out.

Well all large armies at the time fought like this, it was the way wars were fought. We would have fought like that too except we learned soe things fighting the injuns, its better to hide and take pot shots never revealing your true power level when you have inferior numbers. English still fought midevil style, armies meeting in a large field and shooting each other with no cover until one army was dead.

It's true, when a population doesn't have to pay income and property tax it's a lot richer and more able to resist being controlled.
