Cruz is like David Cameron here - slippery.
He's got no personality, there's nothing identifiable about him, if he was in a room you wouldn't notice him.
For this reason nothing will stick to him, there's nothing for it to stick to, but it also means that he can't take any strong positions. If Trump manages to make Cruz take a strong position the whole thing shatters and falls apart.

The reason these people like to have candidates like Cruz is that they can engage in "anti-campaign" all they want and have little to fear from retaliation in kind.
