Does anyone like trump outside of his supporters? His party hates him to the point of almost running anti-trump ads, people who are registered Republicans don't like him. If Hilary gets the nomination it's impossible for Trump to grab the votes of the Sanders supporters and while Hilary won't get all of them she'll definitely get some. The republicans were given an easy way to get the 2016 presidency, all they needed was a good candidate and they couldn't even get that. Trump is great for memes, that's about it.

See: United States Presidential Election of 1912.
>Taft and Teddy Roosevelt hate each other over how conservative Taft was and how not-conservative-enough Teddy was
>TR forms Progressive/Bull Moose party and runs
>Roosevelt far outpolled Taft in the primary elections which were held in a few of the more progressive states. But Taft had worked far harder than TR to control the Republican Party's organizational operations and the mechanism for choosing its presidential nominee, the 1912 Republican National Convention. So, despite Roosevelt's last-minute attempt to block Taft's re-nomination, the party re-nominated Taft in June.
>split ticket
>Wilson wins
It's literally the same shit, even with the populist support that Trump has, Cruz is favored by the electoral mechanisms and will therefore gain the nomination at a brokered convention. Trump will go independent, split the vote, and Hillary will win against a fractured GOP instead of a united one.
And of course, the United States will do nothing about it. Voting is literally a novel formality in the states, like Groundhog Day or hunting Easter Eggs. It's also just as inconsequential, since your own fucking parties can just game you out of your say.

>>70171851
The GOPe isn't going to give Cruz shit. They're just using him to stop Trump from getting a majority, so they can force the brokered convention. Once that happens they have no use for Cruz anymore. Why would they? If they're going to give the nomination to someone who didn't earn the most votes, they might as well give it to the guy they like best. They know Trump supporters won't vote for the nominee anyway. They have no intention of winning the general election. They just want to protect their down ticket and keep the globalist agenda alive.

Someone has to win the Republican nomination, brokered convention or not. Who will it be if not the second most popular candidate after Trump and someone who has spent literal decades on decades in the US Senate but is somehow non-establishment?
If you think Mitt, Kasich, or Ryan are going to be gifted the nomination I think you're wrong.
>>70172366
You can't throw away that which does not exist. The country is about to choose Trump and the party is seriously considering denying them their choice. Think about that.
>>70172366
If Bernie and Trump go independent, then the "throwing away your vote" argument won't work.
You're only throwing away your vote with three parties. With four, there's more symmetry.
>>70172430

It can't work in the US, the electoral college and First Past the Post voting system makes It impossible to have more than 2 parties.
Look up the 1912 US election
>>70172702
I don't know who they will choose, but there's just no good reason for them to choose Cruz. Once they take the step of giving the nomination to anybody that is not the man with the most votes, they signal to millions of Republicans that the party is over. We will walk and never come back. They know that, Cruz supporters know it, Trump supporters know it, everyone knows it. So they might as well pick one of their dandy little buttboys like Ryan. Why not? They have nothing to lose. They cannot win the general election with the strategy of giving the nomination to someone who is not in first place. So they will throw the whole thing in order to protect their down ticket.
There's just no good reason to give it to Cruz.

Cruz is the most popular GOP candidate whose name isn't Donald Trump.
If I were Reince Priebus, that would be reason enough for me. Just because they want to deprive Americans of their vote doesn't mean they should abandon reason and give it party bums. I used to work for a GOP congressman (I live in the US, visiting MEX on vacation) and the party does things with a little more deliberate purpose than that.
The only states I trust are the south and the northeast. They're the only states old enough to remember Andrew Jackson. The manifest destiny states are too cuckish and I do not trust them to do the right thing. They have no populist spirit. Hell, half of them used to be Mexico. Disgusting.
Doesn't a candidate need to hold a majority of delegates in 8 states? Only Trump qualifies for this as of today.
Then again, they could just change the rules, but I hope people aren't that stupid to realize they are being tricked at that point.
If liberalism and conservatism are the x-axis, and libertarianism and authoritarianism are the y-axis, why do we only fight in a y(x)=x manner? Shouldn't there be an authoritarian party?
Fuck it! There should be a political party for every political ideology that exists. I'd love to see a Leninist go up against a Traditionalist.

Cruz is popular with a quarter of the GOP. The only reason he wins big in states like Wisconsin is because of NeverTrumpers, who are using him just like the establishment figures are telling them to. Just look at Wisconsin's exit polls. Millions of them literally said they were "scared" of Trump. And that's just how the midwest is. They're timid cucks. They don't actually like Ted Cruz.
If the GOPe selects him, they get nothing out of it. They don't win the general with Cruz, because without Trump supporters they can't. And we WILL walk.
>>70173261
>how popular? I rarely see anyone mention it, although it is cool as fuck that someone crated it.

And the "The Democrat is so evil, guise" excuse is going to work a third time like it did the last two times. And Republicans need every vote they can muster. There weren't nearly as many people sitting out the last two elections because of outrage as there will be in this election, and the Republicans STILL lose them. I fundamentally disagree with you. Trump's support is entirely based in a widespread disgust with establishment faggotry. If the establishment pulls more of their faggotry at the convention, millions, literally millions, of Trump supporters will either sit out the election, or protest vote against them. They cannot afford this.
But they actually already know this. You seem to be the only one who hasn't figured this out yet. They're fine with losing the general so long as they keep their majority in Congress. Live to fight another day, is their motto. They are cowards and cowards always have that motto.

No way will Sanders back Clinton, especially after all his talk about special interest groups buying Clinton. Backing her will just kill off his base.

Hillary has been up against an elderly boy scout who refuses to attack her on anything, she also has the full backing of the Dem establishment and she's still running into problems. Meanwhile Trump hasn't paid any attention to Hillary, instead he's had to fight off the entire GOP field. In a one on one fight I expect Hillary to sink like a rock.
>>70176562
Except they'll be primaried to death. They'll lose their jobs.
Trump will get the nomination. This is theater.
>>70176045
He's still not gonna win the general
And honestly I think Hillary (assuming she's the nominee) will damage the Democrats down ticket a fair bit so I expect Republicans to take congress no matter what
>>70175970
>They can elect their nominee however they want.
Huge argument about this on Hannity's radio show
This was an excuse someone used, then Hannity said why bother giving people the vote if it means nothing, especially when they can and will change the rules.
The other idiot even said it's not 2012 and those rules don't apply, even though they're still on the books
>>70167267
All trump needs is 54% of the remaining delegates, and he is polling higher than cruz in the winner take all states
The problem with the Republican establishment, is they'd rather lose to Hillary than win with Trump.
>>70176344
the only thing that worries me is the "true constitutional conservative" horse shit. hipster antics push people way to the right out here, religious lunacy or no.
>>70176847
Look, I'm more anti-Trump than pro-Cruz, but Republicans really have to unite around Cruz as he's the best chance at stopping a total Democrat blowout. Trump is such a terrible candidate that he will turn Republican strongholds like Utah and Mississippi into swing states.
>>70176562
I hope you're right, but in my experience as an intern not so long ago, the disgust is quite impotent. For all the injustices of the Obama presidency, it's always met with loud bitching, and nothing else. It'd be great to see voters do something, because the Republican party has had no respect for its voterbase since the Tea Party at least.
>>70177081
Is this even true? What happened with the meeting Trump had with the Republicans?
>>70167267
The RNC probably views this election as a lose-lose, either lose with Trump or lose with whoever they choose due to voter backlash
They're making it obvious to the people they're going for the route that will fuck them over the most, not nominating Trump
>>70176775
Once again party primary electorate != general electorate, all the polling data says Trump hasn't got a prayer in the general
Hillary is not a good candidate and is theoretically easily beatable but not by Trump or Cruz

You are so unbelievably deluded. Trump will be lucky to win a single state in the general.
At that point, the GOP would be committing suicide by not going with him.
It's either roll with Trump, or die.

I don't get this logic
More people have voted for Trump as seen by delegates and popular vote. How will Cruz have more support in the general? Same with Kasich?
If anyone other than Trump is nominated, they won't get the Trump supporters.
>>70177355
And that polling data doesn't account for what I just said, that Hillary is running for all intents and purposes unopposed, with nobody really attacking her on anything and Trump being the target of hundreds of millions in attack ads. In a head to head race Trump will destroy her just like he destroyed Jeb. Besides do you really think the GOP electorate will vote for anyone who subverted the democratic process and stole the Republican nomination, and if so then what on earth are you smoking.

Trump supporters aren't as numerous or powerful as you think. Most Republicans can get behind Cruz as their candidate, while Trump is despised by so many voters. You saw in the WI exit polls where over 50% said they would feel "scared" if Trump became the nominee.

There is literally nobody who hasn't heard of Trump and there is literally nobody who hasn't formed an opinion on him, good or bad. Trump has done this all to himself.
>>70178361

And no I think the GOP is fucked this election cycle no matter what
>>70178018
Not that faggot, but lets talk hypotheticals
Hillary has the core Democrat vote (read: urban and minority poverty centers), but anything outside those areas and she loses hard to Bernie. He is very strong at taking the swing states, so inversely she must be very weak in white suburbia and affluent communities.
Similarly, Ted Cruz is very strong with the core right wing but can't wrest control of the rest of the low information voter base from Trump. This voter base makes up a second 'core base' within the Republican party.
Now if we were to pit Cruz against Hillary, purely a battle of right wing versus left wing, Hillary might lose on the fact that she generally can't win white swing states and that the core religious right is generally a lot stronger at full strength than the core left (not to be confused with the ideological left i.e. colleges and affluent areas, which have turned out for Bernie instead).
Add to this hypothetical record primary turnouts for the Republicans and abysmal showings (in part to an active DNC vote repression effort) for the Democrats, and how the American people are generally far more polarized about Hillary than about Ted, and you have a good argument for Cruz putting up a good fight.
And thats not even going into the super swiftboat campaign that the Republicans will run on Hillary while she is completely gassed on campaign money.
>>70176983
Give people the vote so you know who they will vote for.
If the people can't decide, the RNC will decide for them.

Trump will take swing states. He will take all the swing states that Bernie took from Hillary. That is objective fact. The RNC effort can destroy Hillary's image easily in those states with a concerted information campaign.
Don't you guys think the Cruz support will waver just enough as it becomes less possible for him to win 1237 delegates? Right now the narrative is still "Cruz trying to beat Trump", but later it will be "Cruz and Kasich trying to force a convention". How many of his supporters also support the RNC deciding the nominee?
>>70178802
>Record turnout for republicans
