Is being right-wing caused by suffering?

A couple of years ago, I began to experience chronic tinnitus. There is no cure and it means that the only time I am not tormented is when I am listening to white noise, or when I am intensely focused on something.

Somehow this simple act of suffering for years has made all of my political opinions drift to the right. I didn't hear any new arguments, I didn't change my friends. Just the pain made my see things differently.

Internalising the concept that something so terrible can actually happen, made all my leftie opinions disappear.

Why is this?
>>
>>70165520

I have thought this for some time now.

You are not alone in this belief.
>>
Not sure, for me it was feeling this is the justified option.

its because you finally had a chance to consider your mortality and think about the future after you are gone.
>>
>tinnitus is for old people
>being right wing is for old people

i found your problem. you got older.
>>
You realized that life is inherently shitty and unfair, and that caused you to wake up and embrace reality for what it is.
>>
I am slowly going blind and have been right wing as long as I can remember.

Maybe you're right, I've often wondered that too. They say that the older you get the more right-leaning you become, after you realise that the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows and that there will never be a perfect egalitarian society where we all sing kumbaya and sustain our bodies via photosynthesis.
Maybe because we've faced hardship early in life we've become more jaded and less willing to believe in a perfect world.

Randomly woke up paralyzed one day and after that felt incredible constant pain in my neck for years. After a few years of therapy, I'm down to being able to exist and walk with only a handful of painkillers on my "off" days, the pain becoming the norm at this point. I have seen myself go from moderate to pretty right wing in the past 6 years or so.

That said, i think there's some truth to your theory.
>>

>You realized that life is inherently shitty and unfair
Something like that. Maybe more that life CAN be unfair, but what I see around me (western capitalist society) seems like good and hard-won attempt to mitigate this. I want to protect it.

The parallels to my condition are pretty obvious now that I think about it. I've learned just how intricate things actually are. Just one single change could collapse the whole thing.
>>
>>70165520

It's because libtards are coddled and protected from pain.

When that protection disintegrates, they move to the right.
>>
>>70168074
I'm 24 and I've had pretty serious tinnitus for 3 years already
>>
>>70165520
People who don't have any struggles in life grow up to be weak, sensitive and pathetic.

RIP western world.

have you had an mri scan anon?
>>
>>70171121
Have you had any experience with using a portable masker? Like a hearing aid that just plays sound and runs on batteries?

I can't believe how much they cost. Well actually I can believe it, it's a niche market after all.

I'm on a free trial at the moment and I'm worried I'll get used to it.

MRI and CAT along with several normal old X-Rays. They could not figure out why it happened or what was causing the pain and funny enough as a last ditch effort before I went for surgery (which I wouldn't have been able to afford) I decided to give a chiropractor a try alongside my physical therapy and it actually worked.

Started doing some reading shortly after the initial incident and it seems the body can just decide to randomly fuck itself while you're sleeping.
>>
It could also be an age thing
>>
>>70165520
get hearing aids fag. That's the cure.
>>
>>70173231
Nope. I have no hearing loss, and the tinnitus is only in one ear.

It's likely that I have some type of inner ear disorder like Meniere's disease. I'll find out if it switches to both ears (god I hope not).
>>
>>70172696
it wasnt disc related then?

man i sympathise. i herniated a disc then it ruptured. im not ashamed to say i cried every day for 8 weeks. Before I knew what the fuck it was I considered ending it all. Fuck ever having that again.

I see a chiropractor often since then. Its all that keeps me going.

Ideology is not informed by your feelings, but what you choose to consider logically, and what you choose not to think about, is. If your feelings were keeing you explaining the world one way, and your feelings changed so you could perceive the world another way, sure, your feelings played a role, but it's not a one way street. I've seen people pushed into atheism from too much pain, pushed into victim mentalities and the resentment common on the Left , and I've seen people become less trusting and more guarded, like people on the right. All from pain.

Nietzsche propbably did the best job of explaining the difference in temperament that leads one way or another. Bowden did pretty good too.

I would not wish disk related shit on anyone; my condolences. I had more than my fare share of days like that too and was in a dark place at that time, but it's important to find something to live for and pull through.
For me that became a state of near constant rage. Since then I've remellowed out and feel more alive than I ever have.

Stick with it anon.
>>
Its not about the pain as much as how you were raised to explain the pain, whether you have a personality that tries to control or mitigate the situation of pain, and who to blame.
>>
>>70165520
I'm in perfect health and have been right wing my entire life.
Sorry to burst your idea, but no.
>>
>>70173928
Thanks anon.
It was a couple of years ago now. Once I knew it would eventually lessen I stopped feeling so down and scared. That and a doc took pity on me and gave me fuck tons of valiums.

Ive got fibromyalgia too, so it really was a circle of hell.
I know the constant rage feeling. how the fuck are you meant to function normally when youre in pain all the fucking time. Most of the time I can tuck it away but its like a background hum to everything and sometimes its too hard to ignore.

What changed that allowed you to mellow out if you dont mind me asking?

>>70174017
Being irritable could possibly put you more in step with /pol/ type beliefs I think. And illness can cause rattiness on a deep level.
Ones mental reserves for dealing with mental nignogs on a bus in London for example would certainly be depleted, leading one from a sharing caring mindset to a hang em high mindset.
>>
Nothing like a little pain to help move somebody toward the side that believes that only pussies claim anything in life is unfair and anyone with a weakness deserves to be stepped on because they're inherently inferior

I know the term "cuck" gets thrown around a lot but jesus fucking christ
>>
I see /pol/ as dumbed down ANUS boards but with more memes and no metal.
>>
>>70174697
There wasn't really a specific moment, it just sort of happened with time. I eventually got used to the pain as it slightly lessened and perhaps in my new state of body, only being in mild pain all the time instead of excruciating, I found joy. Also worth noting I dove a bit deeper into nihilism and I still kind of straddle it.
>>
>>70175035
>only pussies claim anything in life is unfair and anyone with a weakness deserves to be stepped on because they're inherently inferior
I remember that I would have thought of this as a paradox. But I don't anymore.

I think people confuse the attitude of "nothing can be done for you" with the attitude "you deserve what happens to you".

No baby deserves to die. But every baby will die. So nobody gets what they deserve, and no amount of politics can change that.

I don't consider myself much more unlucky than anyone else my age. It's just that I noticed the finish line sooner.
>>
>>70175035
the flip side is realising how lucky you are to live in a country with a social safety net. or youd be dead on the grass outside.

depends which way you take right wing to mean

I think socialism works really well when you only share it with a finite amount of people aka your countrymen.
The reason im right wing is because were losing all our goodies to untermensch parasites, so ill vote right to sort this shit out . So am I right wing or left wing.
>>
>>70168498
Why are you going blind? Out of curiousity
>>
>>70175544
The entire hard right movement/this board is literally nothing but people
a) finding reasons to think that anybody other than themselves is inferior, or
b) creating 60's-quality conspiracy theories so that they can do a)

Humans are just really fucking terrible at dealing with emotional pain in general
>>
>>70176394
I don't think of the generic shitposts on this board as "the Right". They're more like extreme leftist positions stated in reverse in order to expose hypocrisy.
>>
You just have high blood pressure. Stop the drama for christ sakes.
Smoke a doobie, chill out, and come back to the left where things are calm and rational.
>>
>>70175633
In any system with benefits, a (quite possibly large) portion of them are probably going to be going to people that you don't like, if you can't handle that then leftism mightn't be for you

Granted the situation in yurop is pretty screwed up right about now but the sort of people who'll say what you want to hear are never going to have your best interests at heart
>>
>>70173507
op same I got tinnitus and hyperacousis about a year ago ive gone full zyklon. I had to quit making music and going to be a audio engineer, it really puts things into perspective, people dont know what real pain is, those are the types of people that fuck around with bernie and waste their lives instead of confronting hard truths, doesnt make it easier though.. Im glad it happened though
>>
>>70165520
Maybe you're seeing the world for how it is and not seeing the world for how you want it to be. This is part of growing up. Ideology becomes less important and you start to let reality and pragmatism take its place.

It was said that if you're young and not a lefty you have no heart, and if you're old and not a righty you have no brain. There is still place for idealism, you're just tempering it with your personal experience and wisdom. Embrace it as part of life and make it work for you.
