You can't really go south through Canada though because you have somewhat limited roads that are open to sabotage and allowing the enemy to predict your likely troop movements, the problem of winter, and you'd find yourself feeding mostly into the kinds of sparsely populated areas that would be both cheap for the US to bomb the shit out of and heavily favor partisan/guerrilla tactics.
Coming north through Mexico poses several problems. First, trying to mass troops just over the US border in a relatively small country is unlikely.
