DC elites control both. They don't care about the party designation. The party designation they care about is continuing increased taxes, increasing mandatory spending (benefits), and increased borrowing..
The parties, RNC & DNC, only exist now to confuse people and have them fight over "ideological" uses of federal money.
DC runs & controls it all -- RNC & DNC. They only support their candidates. DC controls the Media as well. DC hates FNC because they have yet to be corrupted (but it will eventually happen).
Kasich is still in because DC wants him there (they don't like Cruz or Trump). Paul Ryan is a distant backup because he is a DC favorite.
