Find out as much information as possible from your family...idk if Brasil has an equivalent to ancestry.com, but look into public databases of census/immigration information to find out EXACTLY where he emigrated from (the specific town). Immigration records will usually show the port of departure and origin. Once you figure out the town, contact l'ufficiale dello stato civile of that town for shit like birth and marraige certificates. Everything after around 1860 you'll have to get directly through their office of vital records. Boa sorte

I also found a mormon website that is scanning all these kind of documents. In this site I was able to find birth certificates of brothers of my great grandfather but couldn't find his because he was born before 1861, which is the date of the first scans they did.

The reason behind it is that Italy did an amazing job in WW2. An amazing job of convincing everyone that they were on the same level as the rest of the powers. But they weren't. They hadn't modernised enough (yet), their army wasn't organised enough, wasn't armed to the standard of everyone else. It wasn't ready. Asking why Italy was so useless in WW2 is like asking why your 5 year old son isn't as good in school as your 13 year old son.
I'm not saying that to shit on Italy or anything. They tried, most of the time. But they just weren't able to keep up when war came around at the time it did.
