It also involved intimate body parts that would otherwise be kept private for obvious reasons and I don't understand why these types of women think those reasons magically disappear when it comes to nursing. Breastfeeding itself is good for children. Breast milk contains nutrients and hormones that the child benefits greatly from. Beyond that, it's a good bonding experience for the mother with her children.
The controversy that seems to be happening now is whether or not it's okay to do in public.
My general view on it is that if you need to do it in public, why not just cover up? Both of my sisters who have had kids bring shawls with them in the event that they needed to do it in public. They often excused themselves to a private area, like a back room away from family or in their car when out and about.
I realize that going in private areas like that isn't always possible but a shawl would do just fine. At the same time, mothers know full well that when they leave their house that at some point they are probably going to have to feed their kids. If they don't want to use a pump to have bottles ready, that's fine. I'm happier seeing the kids raised properly with the mother being able to go out than to sacrifice one of the party's needs for the other.
What I'm generally not on board with is the argument akin to "It's my body, it doesn't affect you, so I can do whatever I want!". Just because it's a natural body function doesn't mean you get to just do it whenever/wherever. Peeing and pooping is also natural but society has dictated that it's not okay to just expose yourself in public and have at it as you see fit. Though I'm not personally offended by seeing a boob, some people are and would prefer not to be able to see your tits while they're at a restaurant or walking through a park. It would be a bit inappropriate for children to see and I'd bet that a hormonal teenage boy would jump at the chance to perv on your tits if you give him the chance.
