If you believe the bible is all literal historical truth then you have to believe it happened, but it was long long ago. There are many mentions of it in the bible, some can be explained away if your mind is set on it but some are not so easy.
For instance in Numbers 31 we have a number of captive female virgins set aside explicitly as an offering. Did the Priests actually kill the girls and eat them originally? Pretty gruesome to think of, and probably never happened - most likely they were 'redeemed' as slaves for the priests instead, but they are certainly described as an offering or sacrifice.
More troubling is the story of Jephthah. He is explicitly described as making a burnt offering of her - that means she was killed and cooked.
Still that was back in the Bronze age, and it hasn't been a thing since.
