Why? Because a lot of people are mad, feel betrayed by mainstream politics and can see that he is right about some things.
Hillary has a significant amount of devoted support within the democratic base. Lots of people in the democratic base also have strong reservations about her. Outside the democratic party she is not like and not trusted - at all. She is NOT a strong general election candidate and she is very vulnerable to Trump.

Wisconsin was also a test to see how he would do in a place like California, where Trump would have to battle to win each district. The answer is, poorly.
Simply put, while Trump can win with higher margins than ever before, his competition thinned out a lot. This means that basically you've got three groups of voters
Independents that are coming to vote for Trump mixed with dixiecrats fed up with their party
Tea Party/conservatives fed up with their party voting for Cruz
and Neocons voting for Kasich
Eventually the Neocons will leave Kasich and support Cruz (that's what Wisconsin is proving) as the "palatable" choice over Trump. Furthermore, Trump does best in open primaries, which there are only 5 left (and wisconsin was one, which is also a bad sign for Trump)
If Trump can't pull a win in California (and the wisconsin loss suggests he'll lose California unless he corrects course fast) Then that's a lot of delegates he could lose.
