The party is crumbling either way. And honestly, who knows? It also depends how much Trump loses by. If he hits the 1200 number, it looks worse for them to deny him, and it's quite likely he'll get voted in at that range anyways. When he has to worry is if he only hits the 1100's or lower. Then it doesn't look like they were denying something inevitable, it looks like they're denying a weak candidate.
But here's the catch: if Trump hits the 1200, and wins a brokered convention, he still looks like a weak candidate. He couldn't even win his own nomination without a crutch and barely inched past it. He is doomed against Clinton in that scenario either way.
So the reality is, if Trump fails to secure the nomination, his chances of the presidency are non-existent, and you will see that reflected in betting markets. Either way if a brokered convention happens, Clinton is your next president.
