Can someone explain what a brokered convention is?
>The majority of voters want this Trump
>...sorry...but we are going to nominate someone else lol
>...oh btw...america is still a democracy...T-the people have a say
>>
I'm hazy on it also, but i'll take a stab to bump the thread, The popular vote isn't what determines the candidate. It's based on the delegates voting. Some are bound for two voting periods, others are unbound. They go until one is selected.
>>
If the GOP screw over Trump then the candidate they choose will stand no chance in the general.
>>
>The majority of voters want this Trump
[citation needed]

if he had a majority, there wouldn't be a brokered convention
>>
>>70042880
No, it goes brokered if he doesn't reach 1237 delegates. He'll have the majority of delegates and has received the most votes.
>>
>>70042267

Basically during a Primary, the delegates have to go to whoever gets the votes.

In a brokered convention, the will of the people are their votes are thrown out the window and all of the delegates are let off the chain to vote for whoever they want personally.

Just like the Electoral College in the general election, your vote is pretty much only a formality. You don't actually decide who wins, other people do.

Even if Trump were to win the nomination AND the popular vote in the General Election, that doesn't mean he'll get more Electoral votes and win.
>>
>>70042789
It's actually the quite the opposite. Trump will lose BADLY in a general election, Cruz or Kasich will lose, but in a much closer, respectable fashion.
>>
>>70043127
explain
>>
>>70043127
Based on....? His numbers in the primary beat Clinton, and Sanders fan base is composed of Europeans and Teenagers.
>>
>>70043127
Losing is losing senpai. At least with Trump, the people are going out to vote for him, which could mean up to 5% more votes than predicted.
>>
>>70042267
>People Vote
>Election Results assign delegates (each party in each state does it differently)
>Delegates vote on convention
>No one gets more than 50% of vote
>Delegates vote again
>Delegates can vote as they like, primary results irrelevant
Also, some states allow delegates to vote as they want in the first go, so even if Trump barely wins, they can still forced a brokered convention. Trump would have to court delegates. However, the GOP is smart enough to know ignoring the will of the people is a surefire way to either lost voters in the general in the best case, or cause massive riots in protest in the worst case.

Swing voting moderate here, that is around a lot of other swing voters. I'd vote for Hillary before Trump, but Trump before Bernie. I like Trumps immigration policy, and think he'd do the best for business, but I don't think he would represent us well internationally nor do I think he'd be diplomatic and stable enough.
>>
>>70043416
Because he doesn't suck the Open Borders cock? That's what all the other nations want.

He puts our nation first and it is pretty shitty thst you'd want to lower our standing to make us equal with Europe.
>>
>>70043416

I think Trump would be the best person diplomatically, he's a businessman after all.

So far he is the only person wanting to try to get along with the Russians while everyone else is itching for the chance to throw a punch. Not to mention most of them want to keep the trade sanctions, Trump does not.
>>
>>70042267
America's not a democracy. It's a federalist republic. We have states and people vote for their representatives.

An open convention happens when no one from the party reaches the threshold required to secure the nomination. Delegates are only bound on the first ballot, for the most part. Trump knew the rules when he signed up. (He probably didn't and if he did, he'll still ignore them and talk shit anyway)
>>
>>70042960
Learn the difference between majority and plurality, retard.
>>
>>70042880
Trump has already won, but he needs to continue his landslide victories in order to prevent a brokered (AKA STOLEN) election
>>
>>70043416
>I'd vote Hillary

Opinion discarded, FBI notified.
>>
>>70043621
No. I'm not impressed with Hillary, don't get me wrong there. But Trump puts his foot in his mouth too much, he can't keep his shit together. He makes stupid fumbling mistakes and suffers from verbal diarrhea.

>>70043773
I agree with you about Russia, and I hate what a cunt Hillary is about Putin. America needs to get along with Russia. For me this election is about choosing the least worst option.

>>70043895
If Bernie is the nominee I'd vote for Trump.
>>
>>70044030
Shit Bernie is at least something new. How anyone could vote for that cunt is beyond me.

Cruz and Kasich are more moderate. Trump's losing very badly among women, swing-voters and hispanics. Trump is really only strong with Southern white men.
>>
>>70042267
>The majority

No.

Most votes, but still less than 50%.
So majority can chose someone else instead.
>>
>>70042267
Plurality ≠ majority

Just because he has the most doesn't mean he has a majority. At the convention the delegates will be allowed to decide who they want, but they'll vote for who the party wants, AKA not Donald Trump. It'll probably be Kasich.
>>
>>70044255
>Just because he has the most doesn't mean he has a majority.
I'm confused. Doesn't the majority mean you have 'the most'?
>>
>>70043127
As it stands now, yes.
Trump will fucking slaughter Hillary in any debate and Trump is going to start appealing more to the centrists once the nom is in the bag. Hillary will stop attending debates because it makes her numbers plummet, Donald will continue to call her out on it, trump will hold rallies everywhere hillary has rallies, bring out all of Hillaries dirty laundry, hell the guy will probably crash some of Hillary's rallies with a megaphone "DEBATE ME HILLARY"
>>
>>70043127
Fuck off, Karl Rove.
>>
>>70044255
>>70044653
Oh, nevermind, just read >>70044209. That makes sense.

And the unbound delegates can switch positions too, right? Making the ability to switch the majority much easier if he doesn't hold those
>>
>>70044030
Shit even Bernie's better than Hillary and I think Bernie would not get a thing done in office, at least he breaks the terrible Super-Pac funding shilling of the media in favor of weird College cult mass donations.
>>
The long and short of it is he has to meet a required number of delegates and have the majority. If he has the majority but doesn't have the required amount, the convention is brokered. Even if he's only 1 vote short

I honestly don't know if people complain about these every 4 years or we're so distrusting of politics now we KNOW people will get bought.

The majority of voters do want Trump. You're bad at math. I'll explain it like this:

Let's say Iowa has 30,000 voters turn out. 10,000 vote Trump, 20,000 vote Cruz. Let's say Iowa has 30 delegates to offer, Cruz gets 20, Trump gets 10. Then Arizona's primary happens, 300,000 voters turn out, 200,000 vote Trump, 100,000 vote Cruz. Arizona has 60 delegates, Trump gets 40, Cruz gets 20.

I made all these numbers up, but do you see where this is going? The bulk of the voters want Trump. But 20,000 in Iowa are fundamentally the same as 100,000 in Arizona. See how the math works? More people doesn't necessarily mean more delegates. It matters how those votes are divided by state, even if the vast majority of voters pick Trump.

I seriously can't wait to come back to /pol/ in mid July and see the massive fucking butthurt when he is denied the nomination. Holy shit it's going to be funny.
>>
>>70044653
A majority is >50%. If Trump gets 49%, Cruz gets 30%, and Kasich gets 21%, he would not have a majority, but rather a plurality. This would lead to a brokered convention and under RNC rules the delegates would then be free to vote for who they please.

>He'll have the majority of delegates and has received the most votes.
Again, if he had the majority of delegates, there wouldnt BE a brokered convention. Trump would have a plurality, but not a majority. In order to secure the nomination, you need a majority. The problem is the Establishment will pull some kike tricks to give the nomination to literally anybody BUT Trump.

There are 2466 total deligates. The reason 1237 is so important is 2466/2 (50% plus one) no one gets 1237 there is no majority supported candidate

It's easier to call you a cuck tbqhwy fampai. Trump is dominating, his "increasingly nervous man" opponents keep changing the goalposts, you're literally running out of ideas and resort to spewing trite about how he will never get the nomination, what's gonna be next? Are the GOP cuckservatives really going to commit political suicide and usher in a dark age of Democrat rule? If they pull something this stupid they will never win an election for DECADES. Honestly I'd rather parrot stupid /pol/ memes than waste my latin with people like this.

>>70042267
Literally read the rules, the GOP can't throw in a new candidate unless it hits like round 3 of votes.
If trump is as good at deal making as you all claim then the convention should be his time to shine.
