The common cry of "destroy ISIS" is usually a demand for more of what led to ISIS in the first place: war. ISIS grew out of the U.S. war on Iraq, and is armed largely with U.S. weapons delivered to Iraq, Libya, and opposition groups in Syria.
Between 2008 and 2011, 78.9% of weapons sales agreements to the Middle East were from the United States. And we know that between 2011 and 2014 that figure dropped only slightly to 58.6% -- still a majority of the sales.
Instead of trying to stamp out violence with more violence, let's cease providing the weaponry.

ISIS did not grow out of the war.
It grew because Obama abandoned Iraq before it was ready to govern itself leaving a power vacuum.
He was warned this would happen by his advisors but he didn't care it was about his legacy not doing what was best for Iraq and the world.
