>World scale sport events are a good investment for a country.
Right or wrong. Why?
Depends on whether you have the infrastructure in place to support them already.
wrong
It costs every country that hosts it and they waste money on useless stadiums.

It's only good if your country is a shithole that needs an excuse to build up your infrastructure and try to encourage more tourism.
If your country is already good then it's a waste of time and money

We need like a massive cross country race for everyone to take place in.

Doesn't the revenue from tourists and shit justifies building the stadiums? surely there is a plus on investing on that

Great for the corrupt politicians who get to fill their pockets.
Bad for the taxpayers who end up paying for the bribes.
The Athens Olympics were one of the biggest financial blunders to its country, but it tends to vary between countries. If I'm not mistaken the last Olympics we had on the west coast was actually profitable, and I believe Toronto Olympics were either very profitable, or really bad financially speaking

This, the olympics were a disaster
They were supposed to cost like 7 billion initially but the bill kept increasing, eventually it costed like 25 billion.
This is why I don't trust the Greek state for anything nowadays. If we didn't have the olympic games the crisis wouldn't be as severe.
