Big name journals are also pretty critical of what they publish. It probably happens now and again, but I'm not personally aware of anyone doing so. Well data is often truncated, but that's usually to deal with outliers that aren't really believable and this would be prespecified in the analysis plan. If you start removing large portions of data than you're going to start having problems with finding any results so it isn't worth it.
Most trials are done in pharma or academic trials units and if a trial is audited and shown to be dodgy that would have consequences for the rest of the company/unit. I've considered nursing, but it seems like a really stressful job. I sometimes crack under pressure and I'd never forgive myself if one of my patients died. Do you know anything about the athletic trainer/clinical exercise physiologist market? I'd probably have to move to a new state for that but it seems like a fun career, just putting patients with cardiopulmonary/metabolic disorders on exercise programs. It's a bit tedious, some of the patients have been in hospital for years and their chart ends up being thousands of pages long.

Be careful with the engineering memes, electrical especially.
They tend to be really hard, technical degrees, while most of the actual careers are are very formulaic, simple desk jobs with above average pay.
If you want to do some hands-on work at the cutting edge pretty much the only option is to stay in academia, which is quite stressful and with shit pay.
I think going for an actual trade might be good idea.

I ran my own shop for about 8 yrs. did well untill the 2008 recession fucked my automotive industry contracts. That's when I went into Marine Engineering and just use the machines for my own hobbies or small jobs I someone comes my way. I'm not really looking for work at home atm but it's out there.
