Storage is expensive AF so solar and wind are only viable if and only if the energy they produce is immediately consumed.
Solar panels on your home being used to supplement your energy use from the grid is viable huge solar farms are not viable due to the storage issue.
Fossils fuels hydro power and nuclear don't face this storage issue because they can constantly produce energy unlike solar and wind which can produce some of the time and the rest would have to be stored for night use/non windy day use.
