Stupid people letting corporations and entities not beholden to the country play rope-a-dope on them, usually under the guise of growing GDP (to the detriment of HDI) or a red herring leading the country into wars of empire, solely to the benefit of the top 10% of society.

Employers used to compete for workers, and even more for talent. Now, thanks to manipulating the republic to the detriment of the people, fifty men fight over a single grain of rice, so to speak.

It was not a single law that changed the course of the country and arrested the prosperity of the people, but a fundamental change to the system under which we live and most importantly, to who's interests it serves.

Kennedy wanted to subdue the powers of international monetary entities and scale down the Cold War. A very clear message was sent to all future presidents with his death.

Universities probably got the worst of it. Before acollege degree became a necessity for a middle-class life, universities didn't want normal people, they didn't even accept good students. They only wanted the best and the brightest. Now, degrees are expensive jokes and so are the courses offered.

Nope, more like the 70s. We had to start to compete with other markets for manufacturing jobs, the Japs started exporting better cars and electronics than we had, and the Chinese realized that Capitalism isn't such a bad thing and they could crush us with their labor surplus. All the comfy, well-paying factory jobs closed and never returned, crippling the middle class.

This is actually untrue. Real wage-based purchasing power has declined for most people since the 70s. We live in a far more credit-fueled economy today than 60 years ago just to maintain a similar standard of living.

There's a virulent strain of addaboy-ing when it comes to serving the interests of people not accountable to or concerned with the well-being of the country. It's by stupid people who confuse supporting a globalist-controlled foreign policy with the actual interests of the American people, but they can't see that. They don't know we sunk 1.7 trillion into Iraq alone and have fuckall to show for it but a destabilized ME-NA, Muslim immigrants, dead young men and a very happy international business class. They think not supporting the propaganda they see on the news is tantamount to treason. This problem goes beyond a lack of education. People like this should not have a say in the direction of a republic. If they are given one, they open the gates for people like those in control of the country today, to do what they're doing to us and to the world as a whole. Everyone ends up with a boot on their face forever because we let people who couldn't even manage or afford an acre of land decide the course of the country.

>>
>>69990935
you say similar standard of living as you post on a international global imageboard from your smart phone that is the size and thickness of a scrap of paper

nobody could work from home in the 50s

nobody could invent their own job or launch a dot com startup in their garage.

food was a joke. shitty canned food or whatever you can get from local farmers seasonally. my grandmother jarred pickled bologna to survive. you are romanticizing. now anyone can get almost any kind of food.

- The Vietnam war, or more exactly the failed progressiveness that it brought about. Dreams of a peaceful utopia in a world that was just as cold and unforgiving as it had ever been.
- Black Monday and the recessions that followed as the boom of WW2 drew to an end.
- Throughout the 80's and the 90's, popular culture stops portraying technology as something omnibenevolent as a reaction to the cold war and the consistent threat of nuclear annihilation. Examples of this is the Terminator franchise and the difference between Star Trek:TNG and Voyager.

Oats with raisins or a banana works out to be about $.12 a serving. Milk or soy brings it up to about $.20. Lipton tea bags cost $.02 a piece. If you are on the run the oatmeal packets (the flavored ones) run around $.15 a piece. Eggs can run as low as .09, so a 3 egg omelet with peppers and cheese goes for $.38

you are just too stupid or lazy to shop the economy is fine.

The only answer.

This applies to every single country on the planet. Not LBJ, but Globalism in general. People that believe in a "great society" were the original autists. They preach the same even while all peoples across the globe suffer immeasurably, including their own people.

They are the first of the fallen, and they share the same pit with the oldest of all sin.

>>69991113
Relatively similar - way back when you only needed one person working full time to support a family, have and replace a new car every 4-5 years, get new furnishings every so often, have a nice new TV, etc. without having to borrow money for most of it. So yeah, the standard of living worse today of course but it's not too terribly far off, we just have to get loans for virtually all of it.
>>
>>69991322
Nice logical fallacy. Your entire argument hinges on the frail idea that technology would stop progressing entirely without the gradual regression into unfettered free trade.

Because the American dream used to mean that you always had the opportunity to be successful and rich.

Now the American dream just means 'being rich'. Whether you did anything to deserve it or not.

>>
>>69992210
I would disagree in the sense that while it includes the opportunity to be as rich and successful as your own talent and work can make you, the American dream would also mean that an average man, working a regular job can make a decent living and live a good life, not in poverty and support himself and his family with his work. That's the part that has been jeopardized, more by outside interests arresting the course of the country, than by internal communists or other such groups looking to make us all "equal".
