Welp. I just got this letter. I'm seen as a criminal for not having a TV license. They're actually going to get a search warrant to force their way into my home to look for a television .... I'm scared ....

Will post the previous letter in a moment

So they're not going to bust down my door or slice it with a chainsaw? Are you SURE about that? I'm shaking with fear just now. Never broke the law before ... I'm not a criminal!
I also don't watch tv and haven't for years.

Thta would cost more than a mere 100 bucks
>>
>>69986458

They can't get a warrant without some reason to suspect you're using a TV without a licence. Do you have a provisional TV licence, if so you're able to watch it as long as there's someone over 21 who's had a full licence for three years with you. Might be different in NI.

Ever since a fire consumed a large part of London caused by a faulty TV you've had to take a written and practical test on TV operation. Dead easy usually but you've got to pay £150 a year to keep the licence up to date. Penalty can be up to ten years in prison for causing death whilst unlicensed.

Memes aside about muh freedoms, the simple way they phrase things over there, with the undertones of threat in their enforcement, it's disgusting just how Orwellian the UK officials sound. They could just reword things a little bit and come off as less threatening and more "we serve you" instead of "LISTEN AND OBEY".

As opposed to our system where dead people are still receiving threats because they're not paying their electricity bills.

that doesnt mean you are required to let in the license people in your house.

the "officers" that come check for licenses are simply working for external companies (contractors) hired by the BBC that have absolutely no jurisdiction. if one of them rings you you can tell them to eat a dick and theres nothing they can do about it.

We have a similar media license in Denmark called DR licens, except:
1) DR does not have any "investigative rights", meaning they don't get access to any databases on what you do or do not own.

2) If they want to come and check what you own in person they have to get a warrant or you're well within your rights to refuse them entry, any attempt to evade this will be considered unlawful intrusion.

3) The court ruled that they cannot demand retroactive payment, meaning that if they find out one day that you've owned a TV for the last 5 months, they'll only be able to start up the subscription from the given date.

Seriously, anon, you'd try and research whether the same holds true for you, I keep getting threatening letters sent from DR, but I just tell them I'm not required to pay the license, they've even forcefully subscribed me a few times, at which point I've demanded subject access and unsubscribed myself, as soon as you demand subject access they'll lay down flat on their backs because they know they've got no eligible data on how they determined you were required to pay the license.

So yeah, again, research and if things are the same for you, give them the finger no matter how many times they contact you or how threatening their communiques sound.

The fuck are you on about. The licence people are now sworn constables (usually specials, have been since last year). They therefore have the power to break into your house and remove any suspected terrorist if they suspect there's one in there. The Terrorism Act 2006 amended the Terrorism Act 2000 to include TV licence evasion as a terrorist act.
>>
>>69986171

I think the rest of the world should start randomly mailing sporks to random addresses in the UK.

Imagine several thousand sporks coming through the mail system over the course of, say, this summer? Fucking trigger the shit out of MI6 and MI5. The whole island would go on double-red crimson alert level 11, people would be eating their babies, binning haggis and chilling their beer in a fridge. Utter apocalyptic chaos.

We should do this, /pol/. Seriously. Mail one spork to a random Brit address every other week from now through August.

Of course, make sure you take care about biometric evidence and the return address, just so you don't get vanned.

>>
>>69987105
Legally, you don't have to pay it if you don't watch live/broadcast TV. However, if that's the case, they still usually harass you with mail, suggest you're lying, threaten to search your house, etc.

You pay the BBC and read /pol/ thats beyond ironic.

Tbh, I would have thought all you guys were so technically minded you'd get all your tv from torrents for free, in better quality and with no commercials.

>>69987626

Nope. You dont get a single thing. The even more funny thing is if you watch another service say SKY (which is very expensive) you still have to pay for the BBC because you *might* watch their stuff too.
>>
>>69987626

Your TV licence gives you 5 basic channels on analogue. A digital add-on is available for a small fee which gives you the 5 channels plus QVC.

Cable TV requires an additional exam due to the additional equipment and complexity (risk of fire from the cable box etc). Same with satellite, which is a good thing because ~50% of the population are qualified to install and orient a satellite dish properly.
>>
>>69987626

Imagine if several thousand sporks started arriving in the UK from a number of countries, with no apparent, traceable origin or obvious reason.

The UK intelligence & law enforcement would freak ... and would thus alert their allies (such as the U.S.) about "the terrorism" being conducted.

I just suggested caution. If someone were to get caught sending random sporks to the UK, the anti-terrorism forces would probably want to take an interest in you to find out just what your terroristic agenda is.

In the U.S., for example, I'd want to send my sporks from a few nearby cities rather than the one I live in. Make sure no hair or saliva or fingerprints contaminated the envelope (especially the inside). Also, keep in mind that the vast majority of post boxes are located where they are under video surveillance to identify people using them for illegal purposes.

Come on, /pol/. Let's get a laugh out of the summer of 2016 and make the Great Spork Prank in our Britcuck brothers. We can make this a news event.

Please note that in Germany you have to pay TV license tax regardless if you have TV or not. Currently the tax is 17.50 euro per month per household.

You pay those 11€ to finance the national TV which has a shit program to being with so basically you're financing people who do nothing at the national TV station. They can also come into your house and search for a TV but you don't have to let them in.

You only need a TV license to watch live TV or BBC iPlayer.

Home media, video games or streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime don't, one license is needed per house and there's no others because it all goes to the BBC. They call it a license but it's just an optional tax so people who don't watch TV don't have to pay it.

The law is quite clear if you receive/record broadcast TV on the premises then you need a licence.

If you don't do that then you don't need a licence. You have no burden of proof to prove you don't need a licence and they can't enter your home without a court order for which you'd physically need to go in front of a judge for and they'd need some just cause.

For anyone outside the UK that doesn't know, our regional TV service (the BBC) doesn't show adverts and so is paid for with a TV licence which is OPTIONAL if you do not watch broadcast TV.

I don't pay one and never have, I just download TV from the web, it's perfectly legal to own TVs and other TV-like devices providing you don't watch broadcast TV on them.

Do you need a TV Licence?

You need a TV Licence if you watch or record live TV on any device.

What is live TV?

Any programme you watch or record as it’s being shown on TV or live on an online TV service. For example, live TV can be soaps, movies, series, documentaries and news shows as well as live events like football matches and concerts.
Do I need a TV Licence if don't use a TV?

No matter what device you use, you must be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record live TV. This includes:
TV sets
Laptops and desktop computers
Tablets, mobile phones, satnavs and other portable devices
Digital boxes (PVRs), satellite and cable, e.g. Freeview, Freesat, Sky, Virgin Media, BT Vision, YouView, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku and Amazon Fire TV
Games consoles
DVD, Blu-ray and VHS recorders
What is an online TV service?

Any website, app or smart TV service that lets you watch live TV using the internet, such as BBC iPlayer, All 4, Sky Go, Virgin Media, Now TV, BT Vision, Apple TV, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video or ITV Hub.

If you have a computer and watch TV live then yes. Actually the law that supports this is archaic and goes back to the day when the only kind of TV was literally broadcast TV.

They "broadcast" shows online as they "air" which means if you watch the BBC online service iplayer for live broadcasts then you'd need a TV licence, although if you watch "catch up" services then you're fine.

>>69989002
You don't need to get rid of your TV, if you don't use it to watch live broadcast TV then you don't need a licence. You can either tear up the letters and throw them away and tell the "inspectors" to go away.

Or you can do what I did which is let them in once they look around and confirm you don't have a TV to receive or an aerial that's plugged in and they don't bother you again. I think I get the same reminder every 3 years and fill in a form online that declares I don't need one.

If you do watch iplayer online then careful filling out forms on the TV site that declare you dont need one because you're lying and they might correlate the IP addresses, simply fill in the form through a web proxy like hidemyass

>>
>>69989231
>Cant you just say that you dont? How can they prove that you watch Live TV if you dont admit to it?

They can't.

For years they had TV detector vans to drive around and detect if people were using TV, it was just a scare tactic they can't detect if you're watching TV like that.

What they can do is if they know your IP address of the home and they correlate that with iplayer logs to see if you watched something live. Your IP address is private and your ISP wont give it out generally without a court order to do so but there's various technical ways to get your IP online and tie it to your address, the easiest of which is if you sign their online form that states you dont require a TV licence.

I actually don't know of any cases where they've done that to prosecute iplayer viewers its only theoretical in fact I don't think there's every been any significant number of cases of them going to judges for warrants because it's simply more expensive than what they'd get in licence fees.

The whole thing relies on scare tactics, anyone who doesn't pay is just harassed and 99% of people cave, if you're not a sperglord you can literally just tell them to fuck off and nothing will happen.

So you're paying 11.2 Euros a month to a total of 134.4 Euros a year even if you don't watch television.

>You need a TV licence even if you have no TV but a mobile device like a tablet or smartphone.
>It's fucking disgraceful

No you only need a licence if you watch live broadcast TV. Device is irrelevant to the law.

>>69990428
>ou technically MUST pay if your computer has internet access. What a load of bullshit.

No, incorrect, only if you watch live broadcast TV online.
>>
>>69990637
Yeah, you can watch that without a TV license.

Also in Italy, even if you just own a TV or a PC you have to pay the license, like most of Europe except for the UK.

>All owners of television equipment or any other equipment able or adaptable so to receive television are required by Italian law to have a television licence.

>be student in England
>get this shitty letter
>laugh at the concept of having to pay a TV license
>don't have a TV so ignore the letter
>never contacted
>no investigation
Relax, anon. If you're not breaking the law by watching TV without a license, you've got absolutely nothing to worry about.
>>
>>69989851
>Will I go to jail for owning high capacity assault tv license?
No shit, of course you fucking will. They're bloody banned.
>>
>>69990472
I was really arguing about the price, plus in Italy you don't get the SS swarming inside your home.
Though we got fucked and now we pay the license with the electricity bill.
>>
>>69990835
do mafia still have to pay?
>>
>>69990320
Man I hope you're right. These letters are pretty aggressive. I've had them before but not like this and always ignored them because I don't watch live tv and haven't for years. They can investigate and find out themselves. I just got pretty shaken up by this one today. Envisioned them busting my door down and arresting me for having a tv. I need a cup of tea ....

>I'm shaking with fear

So this is what happens when you deport your nation's alphas.
>>
>>69990835
Don't worry about the price.

In Norway the TV licence is 299 Euros.

What gets me about the whole thing, is that we are forced to pay for our own brain washing and indoctrination.

Criminals <> Alphas.

They have to do more to fight racism now because of the "refugee" crisis.
This short series called "Familie Braun" was actually pretty funny, but of course it totally left out the fact that the average migrant from the middle east and Africa is not any less stupid and dangerous than the Nazis it ridiculed.
TL;DR version of the story: Drunk nazi fucked a black woman. Years later, the black woman dumps her child with the nazi and his nazi friend. Nazi gets torn up between racism, friendship and fatherly feelings he develops for his daughter. Funny things happen.

Don't worry mate .. . .these letters run in a rotation.
They are designed to scare you.

How long until they try to get a license for Ahmed and he decides to bomb the TV License headquarters?

>>69986709
it's real. It's one of those weird tax things though, it's used to help fund public broadcasts.
>>
>>69990919
Why wouldn't they ? If you're doing shady shit the last thing you want to do is attract the government's attention.

Probably a new guy on the typewriter trying to prove his worth perhaps.
