Was the demographic significantly different?

it was slower, mostly. so replies were more thought out and new OC was common.

the board was less lol racism and lol jews. there was a coherent political stance rather than just "whatever mr. t seyz"

More statistics-based discussions
Less needless shitposting
>>
>>69951956
Slower board - more discussion - less shitposting -alot more racist which drove the new fags away until m00t got butthurt and nuked us.
>>
>>69951956
Yep. Old /pol/ would've voted Rand Paul, and Ted Cruz but now it's been taken over by racists and idiots who think it's right to kill anything that isn't Christian or white. Now they support a racist and a fascist. /pol/ has changed for the worst. Ron Paul would be disappointed.
>>
>>69953708

This is bait
>>
>>69951956
It used to be more academic, and way more serious. The discussion was full of citations and a lot of weird evidence. The arguments were put together by intelligent nutcases.

Today, it's more of a meme factory. Sometimes I fear we've become the right-wing version of Tumblr.

Old /pol/ was like current /pol/ except without nearly as much shitposting. I think flags and IDs ruined it, because instead of attacking someone's argument (literally the only thin you can do on an anonymous imageboard, which is what drives on topic discussion), everyone just makes jokes about your country. there's pretty much no difference between this and /int/

It used to be 80% misleading infographics and statistics, 10% terrible discussion, and 10% pretty good discussion. And now it's just /b/ 3.0, neo-reactionary edition, and it was even more /b/ before the mods actually fucking cracked down on cuckold porn shitposting which I'm pretty sure was a significant contributor to 'cuck' gaining traction on the farthest fucking regions of the internet. Which really just goes to show you that any meme can be forced if you believe in yourself hard enough.

Regardless /pol/ has always been shit, like every other board on 4chan ever, but now it is a different kind of shit. A new, evolved sort of garbage. Is it a superior sort of garbage? Can one garbage be objectively better than another garbage? That's your moral crisis to figure out.

Queer.

This. And flags too tbqh. For some reason when I see an idiotic, self righteous post anywhere else I am urged to take the bait. When I see a sweden or german flag posting that same opinion I don't get bent out of shape about it, I now just kinda feel bad for Europe.

It also forces people to grow a pair of balls and get some think skin. If you are Indian, you get the low effort memes. If you are Aussie you better have some good shitposting skills are you are worthless. If you are Canadi-

>FUCKING LEAF STOP SHITPOSTING

It's also pretty cool to see international posters outside of /int/, because face it there is nothing to talk about there.

How is that any different from greentexting a little detail about a post, like a "trigger word" or a fallacy, and low effort troll the shit out of them? At least flag shitposting is entertaining and kind of evolves with the board. Calling them a JIDF or BIDF shill when you can't debate your position properly was funny at first, but eventually it just got desperate. Low energy, not very fun.

Because you are attacking their post, not the little flag above it. It's still possible to shitpost at an anonymous post, but it keeps the focus on that post.

What used to drive the board was the evolution of arguments rather than which flag is persona non grata this month, as that was all you could attack.

Memesters love it, but it drives away people who are at last half serious occasionally. I'm only still here because I remember what this place used to be and have the naive hope of fixing it. When the memesters get tired of flags, and that shitposting had now become the "point" of the board, what then? This place becomes a wasteland as the brains that provided what the kiddies would meme at have fucked off and this place becomes another /b/ with more racism. Modern /b/ that is.

Ah, well now that there seems to no longer be any further discussion to be had here, let me be the first to conclude this conversation as has been deemed appropriate by the parties involved.

You guys are too cynical to realize how incredible pol has become. It's like a star about to go supernova. This election cycle will probably destroy pol, at the end of it we won't know what to do with ourselves and many will disperse. But right now we are attaining power levels that few boards could have imagined years ago. Pol has surpassed /b/ at its height and continues to grow in influence.

Pol is on the news every other day now, we're actively dismantling the careers of established journalists and pundits like Beck and Shapiro, we're using brute force to ram scandals and conspiracies down the throats of CNN and other media pundits, we're getting fuckin pepes and meme videos retweeted by a man who might very likely be the next goddamn president, and the general election hasn't even begun.

Pol is fun as fuck when things get happening. On a day like Brussels, or Paris, or an election night, pol is the place to be. When things aren't happening, yeah, it's pretty much /b/ 3.0 but when shit goes down pol shines brighter than anywhere else online. There are posters from around the world feeding us information. It's the perfect level of popularity where the sheer amount of input makes for something hilarious and powerful.

Yeah, it's about to either get too popular and die, or the election will end and it will die, but either way, for the next few months, just strap in and enjoy. This is the golden age of this entire stupid fucking website.

Used to be more actual political discussion.

Used to be a lot more NatSocs, fascists and reactionaries too.

This board changed a lot after the cuckening and GG.

I pray for a Trump v Hillary run for the debate threads holy shit what glory will we witness.

that's how i came here from /b.
i would come to shitpost and throw the stormfags into a tantrum.
it was so easy too.
>>
>>69965953

I've seen way more NatSoc here now then back in 2012 tbqh.

>>69965147
Wow, an actual good post from a fucking leaf.

>hehe 69 xDDD

Yeah that's true though, there has been an increase in NatSoc threads although there has also been an increase in newfags who think that anti-semitism is ironic shitposting
>>
>>69951956
i remember there used to be a lot more history threads 4 or 5 years ago, and they were pretty in depth, too.
>>
Moot ruined /pol/ by adding flags and removing the reply timer.

for the first week straight the board was flodded with interracial porn "what did she mean by this?" threads.
>>
>>69966893

We have /his/ now for that, which isn't good either because the mods said "let the communists have a board, you have enough /pol/"
>>
>>69967001
/his/ has extreme left wing bias tho

Can't corner the dorner, flim flam the zim zam, it's happening, based Putin, etc.

These are all pre cuck memes. The proliferation of cuck on /pol/ marks the dividing line between old and new /pol/ imo

Fug, I'm scared what will happen to /pol/ once Trump loses and Shillary becomes president. Everyone intelligent here knows that will be the end result. Trumps got zero chance in the general and even in a 1 on 1 battle with Cruz he would have a hard time getting >50% of the republicans to side with him. I'll still vote for him because there's no one better but I hope there isn't a mass an-heroing on here just because the god emperor lost to the Shillary industrial complex.

i wouldn't say /pol/ was good but it used to be an actual political board back in the days.
instead of the stormfag meme fest circle jerk.

/pol/ literally became a caricature of itself
>>
>>69951956
Biggest changes since I started browsing is the sheer amount of shitposting.

As the board has gotten more popular, the signal to noise ratio has gone down.

That's it, really. There's not too much difference in content. /pol/ has always more or less believed the same things since it was /new/ and probably since it was /n/ but I wasn't around on it back then.

There were no flags, way less shitposting, virtually zero shills, there were no "/pol/ BTFO!!!" threads because nearly every thread was by a pro-/pol/ person pointing out some liberal insanity and shilling twitter, /pol/ was much more creative and funny and cohesive in the past. Moot introduced flags specifically to cause disruption and nationalist infighting because /pol/ was getting too powerful and it worked because now the amount of nationalist in-fighting memes that have sprung up to divide /pol/ (indian shit, eternal anglo, leafposters) are all over the place. People used to shill twitter more, less young people, much more stormfags and people who knew their shit. When I was on old /pol/ in the IQ threads the discussions were incredible and the amount of refs to papers you'd never heard of were all over the place. Stuff like Factual Falcon used to happen and it would be far far more intellectual and rigorous. Neo-/pol/ is faster and more normie thanks to Trump but probably has a wider and more disparate impact. Of course all the old intellectual die hards migrated to 8pol where they run a tightly enforced white nationalist echo chamber and navel gaze among themselves pretending they are still in control. I wouldn't say it's much worse now, it's just transformed into something that is very different. We still have good stuff like all the Trump memes and the birth of Kek.

The only thing that I miss is how little "/pol/ BTFO" threads there used to be. Back in the day when /pol/ was rising, it was liberals being criticised on the first post of every thread, but because this place got too big and drew plebbitors in, it attracted people who wanted to try and "take down /pol/" so we have these stupid low effort shitposting threads. Oh yeah, there was way more Jew-posting and accusing others of being JIDF.
>>
>>69969370
I fucking hate the /pol/ BTFO threads so much
>>
>>69968891
/jp/ even has [aa] [/aa] enabled
>>
>>69969370
Some of us are still around.

Personally, I collected data and statistics on guns, and secondly on race (to a lesser degree)

I browse 8ch's /pol/ board about as much as I do 4chan's, because 8ch has much better signal to noise ratio and the mods actually sticky some seriously relevant and informative stuff literally every day.

8ch's great for catching up on stuff you missed on 4chan because 4chan moves at the speed of shitpost and everything is slid off the front page inside of 30 seconds if it isn't some click-bait tier HAPPENING crap.
>>
>>69968996
This is a lie. /pol/ was right Wight nationalist dating back to /new/. That's why it was scrapped. Twice

good for catching up on news, community is bad. Everyone is part of a giant hivemind.
>>
>>69969652

I left to 8pol in the second exodus, around August 2014 I think and was on there for basically a year, I stopped going after the UK election though and too many problems with 8ch in general started accumulating. Best part about old /pol/ used to be arguing for the sake of it and playing both sides of a discussion but on 8pol if you're not a white nationalist everybody gets super fucking butthurt and sometimes you even get banned too. there's a lot of high quality posters still on there, and I check it sometimes but not enough to make it worth going back which is sad given how much potential it had. I think they've both developed into really nice niches. I wanted a discussion on the imperial history of 19C America the other day and wrote a long OP about it and on here it 404ed instantly within 30 seconds and on 8ch it lasted for 8 hours with all kinds of really well thought out commentary. More often than not though, I kind of just enjoy shitposting and memeing about happenings which is way more appropriate on here though given the post frequency. I do miss how we've lost a lot of the academic quality to /pol/.
