There is huge heavy industry cluster in Ural mountains.
3rd most populated city - Novosibirsk
Far East is also good, Vladivostok is nice.
There is life, work and civilization in Siberia. It's just more compact, than in west part.
>>
A wide belt of it running along the border is more or less like much of European Russia, which is precisely why the Russians expanded into it so organically. I've been in summertime and it's actually quite pleasant. North of that is taiga coniferous forest, good for logging and sitting on top of a lot of gas and gold and so on. North of that is the tundra, which is pretty bleak, though with certain rich deposits of nickel and so on. The far eastern pacific coast part is a world of its own, with different climate and general feel. Russians are majority almost everywhere, despite what roach shitposters are saying above. Those natives of appreciable population size what nothing to do with Turkey, and are well assimilated into the Russian state. The defence minister is from Tuva, for instance.

The Russians have prisons there.
I did a year in Durham. It was alright.
Nothing like a Russian prison. We had nice food, family visits and work. I worked as a chef. The food is so important in prison.
Prison should not take away human dignity. We all are human.

I do voluntary work. I won't name the organisation.

>>69919222
We do have more or less cheap suburbs (well, near the Moscow at least, won't speak for other parts of the country).

The problem is - you have to own a car in this case, otherwise it's pointless. And here comes the other problem - roads quality and infrastructure in general.

The other problem is "centralization" or so to say. It's pretty typical, that most of the workplaces will be in the city, so most people people prefer to live in those blocks, closer to work, instead of wasting 2-4 hours in jams etc.

Last, but not least - people just used to live in these. Imaging that 4-5 generations living one way - next 4-5 generation will live the same way, most likely.

Russians hate their country while it's soft and peaceful, they hate career politicians and businessmen.

There were huge protests during the last elections, despite Russia being at it's economical peak.

Then Ukraine happened and later Syria, Russia's economy started tanking but the patriotism and Putin's popularity rose.

Basically Russians don't care as long as they get to go to a just war with a Czar leading them. Russia is a perfect Deus Vult material.

I have friends in Chita (Trans-Baikal region), Novosibirsk (largest Russian city after Minsk, Central-South Siberia), Aldan (south Yakutia) and Tomsk. I also knew a faggot from Nadym (gas mining city near Yamal). And there's an oil driller from Sakhalin. And one insane chick from Anadyr in Chukotka.

Sakhalin, the Kuriles, Kamchatka, Chukotka, Kolyma are not Siberia. These are the Far East and are soewhat peculiar.

Sakhalin is quite populated. Much oil and very rewarding jobs on the rigs, but high prices on everything. Half a year Sakhalin is barely accessible by sea, and underwater tunnel started by Stalin was scrapped by Khruschev. Basically a very cold Britain or large Hokkaido. Not much to do except mine oil, coal, chop timber and catch crab/fish.

Nadym is great for shift job on gas rigs of Gazprom. Also great if you're an aboriginal. Also great if you're into hunting seals and other fur critters or like to breed Reindeers. Otherwise it's frozen hell of suffering for a Eurocuck, and not really pleasant for a Russian.

Chukotka has much snow, Chuckhi aboriginals (all drunks by now) and gold. Not much to do but dig gold. Was heavy into whale hunting, now - not so much. Chukchi used to be the most ferocious and bloodthirsty savages of Eurasia and much of North-West America (raiding across Bering Strait to kill, rob and burn), who fought three wars against Russians. They letter became addicted to tea and vodka, and so pacified.
Local Russians are strange. In the head.

Yakutia is full of Yakuts, that are short and angry vaguely Turkic people. Well, full for a country twice the size of Fennoscandia yet with barely 1 million people. Russians dig gold, mine diamonds and chop wood. Yakuts drink, fuck ponies and misbehave. Sakhalar - Russian-Yakut hybrids - combine those activities.

South Siberia is indistinguishable culturally and economically from "General Russian Core". The nature is gorgeous, the climate is very hot at summers and very cold at winters.

Also, Turkics and Chinks breeding Russians out is wishful thinking.
They seem to breed at insane % because there are so little of them.

Together all of aboriginals are barely above 1.5 million people. The combined population of Siberia and the Far East is around 40 million people.
Half a million are Yakuts, half a million are Mongol Buryats near Baikal, 200K are Tuvans (Mongol-like Turkics, the minister of defence of Russia Shoigu is a Tuvan). Mountain Turkics of Sayan mountains (Shors and Altais) are below 500K combined. Other peoples are less than some Obongo forsaken town in the middle of North Dakota.

Russians come in waves of several million colonists once a 40 years or so. There was a population flight to either oil regions of West Siberia or Moscow/St.Petersburg people magnets, but it has since stabilized.

Also there are many nuke launch facilities hidden god knows where. Only underground bunker-city under mountain Yamantau is Bashkiria, south Ural, is well known as the central command point in case of nuclear destruction of NATO.

My family is from Siberia, we came over as part of the 'brain drain' of scientists looking for a better life during the beginning of the turbulent 90s, have been going back with some regularity since. Novosibirsk, Biysk (a small village near Biysk, actually).

I really love it to be honest. The people are no-nonsense tough bastards. My relatives still there are mostly rural/blue collar folks. Truckers, rail road workers, farmers. Everyone grows their own food in the garden, many have chickens, pigs, or even a cow. Fishing is probably the #1 hobby, that and berry and mushroom picking. Good jobs are in tight supply unfortunately, take home wages for the blue collar type of worker are pretty low, but them growing a lot of what they eat alleviates thing somewhat, that and govt. subsidized or inherited housing (par for the course in Russia). I look forward to visiting every year. Aside from the lack of well paid jobs, especially blue collar work after the commie propped up factories closed down, and a certain degree of alcoholism that is all to prevalent in certain villages, the lack of a) troublemaking minorities and b) any sort of "SJW" type of people is beyond refreshing. Lots of families having babies, driven in part by the govt subsidy, is pleasant to see as well. Overall, since the 90s, I'd call it a massive improvement, sanctions and cheap oil prices or not.

The church is becoming more of a thing, although for the vast majority of people (myself to a degree) it's more-so a nominal sort of participation. I'd say over 50% of people wear crosses, but very few go to mass with any regularity. Wealthy benefactors have built churches in the small villages that they're from. Here is the one in my grandmother's village.

I'd say that overall, a lot of Siberia, and Russia in general, reminds me of the American Rust Belt. Many once-humming factories shut down, and not enough new business came in to give the 'man on the street' a solid reliable living to make. So of course people will adapt and do little side things, open businesses, etc. Now, even in the poorer areas like Biysk, I'd argue that from a material wealth standpoint the average person is probably better off than during Soviet times. But just looking around, a lot of the public infrastructure is just going to shit (as it has been for 25+ years). Moscow and St. Petersburg are very different, the Altai Krai is one of the poorest regions in Russia. The wealth gap is pretty immense, but not a whole lot different from what I see where I live in the US (Indianapolis). You have the well heeled guys with brand new black Land Cruiser 200s, and people like my great uncle driving a 1982 Lada.

I have been to Irkutsk/Lake Baikal in the middle of winter. It's extremely picturesque! Walking across a massive frozen lake /riding across in a snowmobile is a huge novelty to someone who grew up never seeing snow. Russians right across Russia but in particular in Siberia tent to be pretty sour towards foreigners. I met in total 2 nice Russians in the couple of weeks I spent in the country. I met about 12 Mongols in Irkutsk and travelled with them to Mongolia and they were all 20x more happy and friendly than any Russian. And they were considerably pourer too

A pretty typical small village scene, a poorer one to be honest. No pavement to speak of, population of maybe 700ish. Had the time of my life hanging out with my local cousins and their friends, drinking beer and hanging out in the sauna. Everyone was very curious to hear about what people in America thought of Russians, not sure if I ever did give them a satisfactory answer. It is. My cousin that's a few years younger than me finished his one year in the service (scrapping out rusty Soveit stocks of Ural and ZiL army trucks) got some schooling as a train driver/engineer and scratches out a living at the train depot in Biysk. Knocked up a local girl and married her. settled down in a somewhat run down older log home. She is quite literally the bare foot country girl that cans apples in the summer kitchen and tends to the garden. Don't get me wrong, they live in poverty and had hard upbringings (his dad is an alcoholic, she spent time in a children's home due to unfit parents). But I look at that simple life and get jealous. At the same time, I'm sure he'd look at my job, my fiance entering residency, our 3 cars, and think I was crazy to think of giving that up. Grass is always greener and all that.

I've played out this scenario in my head for fun, and I think I could totally pull it off. My grandparents sold their nice little dacha house on about 1 acre of tilled land for the equivalent of $1500, and that's pre-currency devaluation. A cheap little Lada can be bought for about $500 in usable condition. Especially if I just wanted to lay low and spend my days working the land and fishing out by my country familia. Let me tell you, that lifestyle keeps you in awesome shape. Literally working for your meal is a novel concept to most of us. Stocking up potatoes in the root cellar for the winter, canning, etc.
